Special thanks to @ljwrites cause yesterday we talked through how to refer to a maiden in the Tang Dynasty. In modern Chinese people say 小姐姐 and around the Ming Dynasty the term 姑娘 was popular. A random Baidu article she linked had me settle on 娘子 which I always took to mean "wifey" but before Yang Guifei (杨贵妃) meant an unmarried maiden and apparently in Korean the word is still used to refer to unmarried women.

A little more intro. I’m also a student of #Zen #Buddhism and have the wild dream of learning #ClassicalJapanese and #ClassicalChinese to read some of my favorite texts in the original (#Dogen #Hongzhi). Would love to follow more #Buddhist mastodoners if I can find you.

I have been making slow but steady progress on my project to study and memorize the #TangPoems300 #唐诗三百首. I made a super detailed annotation of 蜀道难 yesterday while studying. #languagelearning #classicalchinese
