Silo, season 2 review, the danger is everywhere https://oldaintdead.com/silo-season-2-review-the-danger-is-everywhere/ #AmberTemplemore, #AviNash, #ChinazaUche, #ClarePerkins, #Common, #HarrietWalter, #HughHowey, #RebeccaFerguson, #RemmieMilner, #ShaneMcRae, #Silo, #SteveZahn, #TimRobbins, #WomenDirectors
Silo, season 2, operates in two locations most of the season. The silo where the story began, and the silo Juliette Nichols (Rebecca Ferguson) finds when she goes outside to clean. This resolves the question at the end of season 1 – does Juliette survive – and introduces a new set of characters.
As Juliette leaves her home silo, she walks over the hill and finds thousands of bodies. She walks through and on them, crushing bones as she goes, to reach the silo they all ran from. She goes inside.
The place seems deserted, but she soon realizes someone is alive in IT. She had to improvise a bridge to get to it. She finds Solo (Steve Zahn) in there, afraid to come out. He has food and all the knowledge from the before times at his disposal.
Through the remainder of the season, Juliette is working to find a way to go back to her home silo and stop the rebellion which would surely kill everyone, just the way the rebellion in the new silo she found did. Going outside is not what it appears to be.
Let’s rebel, okay?Shirley (Remmie Milner) and Knox (Shane McRae) from mechanical are among those who want a rebellion and to open up the outside doors. Everyone in the silo is screaming for the truth about what’s outside. They don’t believe stories told by the authorities in charge. They want to know what Juliette saw when she walked over that hill, farther than anyone had gone before, thanks to some quality tape sealing up her suit.
courtesy of AppleWhile Bernard (Tim Robbins) is still in charge, Robert Sims (Common) and his wife Camille (Alexandria Riley) are making power moves. The new sheriff, Paul Billings (Chinaza Uche), is proving hard to control. Walker (Harriet Walter) actually leaves her workshop in an effort to save her ex-wife (Clare Perkins). And the super smart guy from the down deep, Lukas Kyle (Avi Nash), figures out everything – but not until the last minute.
Juliette is one smart engineerJuliette is in for a lot of surprises where she is. Solo has answers but insists on her help with things before he’ll help her get back home. She MacGyvers her way through many challenges. It adds up to suspense, excitement and danger.
This series looks so good with amazing sets creating a realistic world set hundreds of years in the future. All the actors are top notch, especially Rebecca Ferguson and Steve Zahn. There will be two more seasons of Silo. Season 2 ends with a couple of cliffhangers as well as a jaw dropping surprise ending.
This series, based on books by Hugh Howey, is always engaging and rich with human drama and characters. Amber Templemore directed several of the episodes in season 2. It’s all uploaded and streaming on Apple TV+. Silo is one of the most interesting sci-fi stories I’ve seen. If you’re a fan, I’d love to know what you thought about season 2.

> “The modernity project does not define humanity. #Humanity is much older. It’s too late for modernity to succeed but it’s not too late for humanity to succeed.” Here he turns to #indigenousCultures: “For hundreds of thousands of years, they survived and did quite well without causing the sixth #massExtinction.”
“There isn’t a single Indigenous package,” he says. “Each is tuned to its [particular local] #environment, and they vary a lot. But they have #common elements: humility, only taking what you need from the environment, and the belief that we can learn a lot from our ‘our brothers and sisters,’ that is, the other animals and plants who have been around for much longer than us.”
On the U.S. Supreme Court
—Chief Justice John Roberts and his Republican majority have spent decades systematically dismantling the guardrails of American democracy.
Itself the product of unprecedented norm-breaking
—encouraged by a fifty-year special interest campaign designed to weaponize the judicial branch
—it is the Roberts majority that has hastened our endemic institutional collapse.
We can draw a straight line, for example,
from the Roberts Court’s 2010 #Citizens #United decision, which invalidated Congress’s bipartisan campaign finance limits on the farcical premise that independent expenditures could not be corrupting,
to the imminent shadow presidency of erratic mega-billionaire Elon Musk, Trump’s biggest outside spender.
Citizens United set the stage for the proliferation of political nonprofits and the establishment of #Super #PACs,
giving oligarchs like Musk a megaphone loud enough to drown out ordinary voters.
The decision turbocharged Trump’s rise, allowing his allies to flood the airwaves with disinformation and propaganda,
meanwhile trapping Democrats in a system of corporate-funded campaigns that has eroded their ability to represent the working class.
Three years later, in #Shelby #County v.#Holder, John Roberts completed his career-long vision quest to dismantle the Voting Rights Act,
invalidating its preclearance requirement for states with a history of racial discrimination.
Erasing the national consensus first achieved in the bloody crucible of the Civil Rights Era
and repeatedly reaffirmed by near-unanimous bipartisan Congresses, Roberts deemed racial discrimination a relic of ancient history,
declaring that “nearly 50 years later, things have changed dramatically.”
A flood of Republican state voter suppression laws followed, funded, and orchestrated by the same interests to which Roberts owed his majority.
“Throwing out preclearance when it has worked and is continuing to work to stop discriminatory changes is like throwing away your umbrella in a rainstorm because you are not getting wet,”
Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg warned in her searing Shelby County dissent.
But soaking us was the whole point.
The downpour continues.
Final results for the 2024 House elections were tallied recently, and Republicans will owe a razor-thin 220-215 majority to the three seats the GOP flipped thanks to the North Carolina legislature’s brazenly partisan gerrymander,
a move blessed by the Supreme Court’s Republican justices’ 2018 decision in #Rucho v. #Common #Cause.
In that case, the Roberts Court
—so power-hungry that leading legal scholars have dubbed it the “Imperial Court”
—conveniently found that #partisan #gerrymandering,
-- a practice dominated by norms-be-damned Republican state legislatures,
-- presented a “political question” that was outside their purview to resolve.
From campaign finance to immunity, the Roberts majority…
