Mi'kmaw elder, activist, historian and author Daniel Paul has died. He was 84. Paul advocated for renaming landmarks named after Edward Cornwallis. The British governor of Nova Scotia issued a proclamation offering a bounty for Mi'kmaw men, women and children in 1749, the same year he established Halifax. As part of #reconciliation we should rename these landmarks with Mi'kmaq language names. #indigenous #mikmaki #novascotia #cornwallis

I haven't been pulling my weight with #fungi posts recently. Here's a few I found during a walk at #Cornwallis in #Waitākere over the weekend.

Clockwise from the top left, an earthstar (Geastrum sp), fly agaric (Amanita muscaria), a young robust bracket (Fomitiporia robusta), bonnets (Mycena sp).

Earthstar. A beige coloured puff ball fungus in leaf litter. The outside has formed a star shape with a central hole for spore release.

Fly agaric. A bright orange mushroom with white spots amongst pine needles.

Bonnets. Small pointed mushrooms, orange in colour, growing on a tree.

Young robust bracket. A large bulbus pale orange growth on a tree.

Finally, re: Fouché, a little connection between the #FrenchRevolution & #AmericanRevolution for my @Histodons

The public knows of the surrender of #Cornwallis (1738-1805) at #Yorktown but probably not of his later career in #India & #Ireland. He also served as plenipotentiary to France during the negotiations for the Peace of Amiens (1802).

Fouché here expresses his regret that Cornwallis's health prevents him from accepting a social invitation but hopes that his son & others can attend
