The #Bodleian #Libraries at the University of Oxford recently became a premium #OAPEN Library and #DOAB supporter. Silke Davison interviewed David Watson, the Bodleian’s open monograph project officer about their engagement with #OpenAccess books and why they chose to become one of our supporters.

OAPEN - Online library of open access booksAddressing the recent issues with #DOAB
"Lately, we have received feedback on a disruption to DOAB, noticing the website takes a while to load, times out, or even crashes. We apologise to anyone who has experienced any inconvenience. This is due to a server capacity overload. Put simply: DOAB is too large for the environment it currently runs on.
To solve this... we currently are in the process of migrating our services to the CERN Data Center"
The Directory of Open Access Books (DOAB) is an independent,…
Lösungen finden, #KI einsetzen, Investitionsentscheidungen anders treffen etc. Sogesehen sind die Anforderungen von #OA innovationsförderlich? https://wien.rocks/@nikolausf/112180239840324752

Re-classifying knowledge: moving from BIC to #Thema. At #OAPEN & #DOAB are moving from the #BIC #classification to the new Thema classification.
What does it mean for the OAPEN Library and DOAB? 1. Several data-related and technical changes must be made to our platforms. 2.Changing our data ingestion. 3. Converting of all the existing BIC classification codes to the new Thema classification codes.
As you may have seen in our newsletters, we at OAPEN…
OAPEN - Online library of open access booksSome of you might have noticed that the Directory of Open Access Books (https://www.doabooks.org) had been unavailable for days.
In this blog post we explain what had happened - a #DDoS attack. You can read it here: https://oapen.hypotheses.org/803.
Taylor & Francis has announced its support for the Peer Review Information Service for Monographs (PRISM). It provides a standardized way for publishers to present information about the peer review processes for their titles on the Directory of Open Access Books (#DOAB) platform.

Taylor & Francis NewsroomFound a DOI recently in the Directory of Open Access Books, that goes to an online copy of the book, but not to an #OpenAccess copy (and there's no clear link from the paywalled copy to the open access copy.)
It looks like the DOI may have changed destinations over time (its structure suggests a Cornell-assigned DOI, but it now resolves to an OUP address.) I don't know if the access change violates either DOI policy or #DOAB policy, but it makes me more hesitant to link with DOIs in the future.

DOAB celebrates its 10th anniversary!
This year, the Directory of Open Access Books (DOAB), led by OpenEdition and OAPEN Foundation, celebrates its 10th anniversary. Since its inception, DOAB has evolved from an idea for indexing high quality peer-reviewed open access books and chapters to a globally used and open directory serving not only researchers and the wider scholarly community, but also the public.

We're celebrating the 52nd birthday of the #ebook today. This summer's also a milestone anniversary for my own ebook-related site, as well a milestone for some other ebook projects. In a new post on Everybody's Libraries, I thank some of the many people who have been sharing books, creative works, and information about them on the internet for the past many years: https://everybodyslibraries.com/2023/07/04/my-thanks-to-all-sharing-books-online/
