How I Buy Games

I stick to a clear philosophy when it comes to #GamePurchases, focused on ownership, platform fit, and how a #game is best played.

1. #DRMFree First
My top priority is owning my #games without restrictions. If a game is available on #GOGcom, that's where I buy it. Full ownership, no #DRM, no launcher drama – just the game.

2. Platform Depends on Genre & Controls
If a game isn’t on #GOG, I pick based on how the game is best played:

#StrategyGames etc. go to #Steam, since these are best with mouse and keyboard. Steam is my least choice overall, but still valid for genres where a controller just doesn’t cut it.

Everything else that plays best with a controller goes to #Nintendo #Switch or #Sony #PlayStation, especially since both still offer physical copies.

Radio News: Argentina, China, Czechia, Germany, Netherlands, Spain

Argentina

Radio Argentina al Exterior, aka Argentina to the World currently keeps us quite up to date on its website, and – in Italian – also on WRMI. The English programs are also broadcast via WRMI, but unfortunately, only the second half of the actually sixty-minutes program. You only notice that it is really a newly recorded one when Fernando Farías, its host, mentiones a cetain day in history, or a birthday, etc..
The Chinese program has long disappeared from the WRMI schedule, but is available with almost regular new podcasts of about one hour each.

China / Vatican

Vatican Radio’s future on shortwave may be uncertain, but the shortwave signal from Santa Maria di Galeria reaches Chengdu in western China with certainty.

Czech Republic

Radio Liberty (Radio Svoboda) is still on air from Viesintos in Lithuania, on 1386 kHz, during the evening hours. These are followed by a relay service of Radio Ukraine. According to Radio Liberty’s April-15 news release, their time on air would be from 18:30 to 21:00 UTC or 21:30 to midnight Moscow time, and therefore include Music on Svoboda, an hour with a variety of music played. That would be from 20:00 to 21:00 UTC, but if Radio Liberty is off, and followed by the Radio Ukraine relay service by then, new music editions are still available online every Monday.

Germany

Deutsches DRM-Forum 2025, a German-branch meeting of the Digital Radio Mondiale Association, was held in Brandenburg State’s Königs Wusterhausen, not far from southeastern Berlin and near Berlin Brandenburg Airport, on Monday and Tuesday this week. The DRM Education Project mentioned in the press release probably includes things like distance learning, in "Integria", which seems to have its place somewhere between historic Australian "School of the Air" and the internet of nowadays, in places where the latter isn’t easily available.

Spain, The Netherlands

Europe has seen some tropospheric propagation this month, as reported by El Radioescucha and by Peter’s DX Corner.
Summer hasn’t even started yet, so there will probably many more of these exotic days on VHF/FM.
