#CitizenScience keeping an eye on the source-to-sink movement of dust around #SaltLakeCity.

"Give the overall flow yesterday, the dust in the Salt Lake Valley was likely from sources to the south and the southwest given the flow direction and not from the exposed Great Salt Lake bed."

Extremely high resolution paleomagnetic record (almost 1cm/yr deposition rate!) from the South China Sea shows evidence of rapid geomagnetic excursions between 14.5 and 11.5 kyr. This is much more recent than the Mono Lake and Laschamp excursions at 30-40 kyr.

Cluster scientist spotlight!

Kendra Caskey,Master's Student, Brigham Young University

What do you study for DUST^2? Why is this important?

"I study dissolved and particulate trace metals in the Provo River, which is a snow melt dominated stream in Utah. This is important as metals in water can affect the water quality for drinking."

Cluster scientist spotlight!

Greg Carling, PhD Professor, Geological Sciences, Brigham Young University

What do you study for DUST^2? Why is this important?

"I study the impact of dust on air quality and water quality. This is important because it affects our health and the health of the environment."

No matter if you're winding down from work on the East coast of the U.S. or taking a mid-afternoon break on the West coast, or anywhere in between may we suggest taking a few minutes to read "Combining modeling and isotopic signatures to track Aeolian dust from source to sink in the Wasatch Front, Utah, USA".

It's a nice read on an early spring day.
