Okay, this is a long and meandering post: Deconstructing “What’s Worth Doing?” But, I use (and made!) lots and LOTS of pictures—30 pictures!! This is me looking at *HOW* a specific learning card deck encourages and supports better thinking. And other ways this could have been done.

MediumLLMs lack bodies. Chemero (2023): Embodiment shapes human thought. Mice navigate via physical interaction (Shamash et al.). Can algorithms ever “understand” without senses, pain, or movement? Or is cognition inherently tied to flesh?

Awesome day 1 of Embodied Cognition and Learning class! We explored a network connecting us to theories and topics of interest and then discussed how embodying this with ourselves and balloons had different affordances than visualizing with software. #EmbodiedCognition #LearningSciences @learningsciences
Exciting new open access paper in ijcscl by led by Xintian Tu! We explore how gesture and embodiment are powerful communicative tools in a MR environment, and how some of these key embodiments carry over into interview contexts! https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s11412-023-09395-z @learningsciences #LearningSciences #EmbodiedCognition #MixedReality

I will spend the time around new year in a remote montain hut in Italy without internet. I would like to use the quiet time to learn more about #embodiedcognition. Any suggestions for a book or podcast? #embodiment #cognition

If the mind isnt just bound to the brain, but extends through tools we're familiar with — hammers, calculators, cars being felt as extensions of the body — then smartphones and social media platforms could be seen likewise as part of our extended mind.
Losing part of your mind might feel uncomfortable. Growing a new part might feel unusual too. But both could also feel liberating.
I think I'm feeling a bit of all of these at the moment
(8/8) Sorry to post such a long thread, but hopefully some interested academic-type people will read it! Here’s a concluding list of tags that give you an idea of the areas I do reading in in order to help formulate my ideas:

@AndrewWatsonTTB tx. If what you're saying is that the theory of #EmbodiedCognition is beginning to *make impact on practice* - that's extremely interesting. As will be observing how its (mis)interpreted.
Does movement help students learn?
Specifically, do students learn more when THEY manipulate triangles than when their TEACHERS do so?
The field of #EmbodiedCognition is beginning to explore such questions.
Here's one example:

Research paper in progress, isls2023, embodied cognition
Working on #isls2023 papers today and quite excited about them. In one we are exploring how multiple collaborative #EmbodiedModels in sequence supported students’ explorations of #ecosystems. It’s really satisfying to see how different ways of moving 4 the same concept support different perspectives and synergy. Also we finally get to share our GEM-STEP work (https://embodiedplay.org/). #LearningSciences #EmbodiedCognition @learningsciences
