A backlight photo taken in August 1985 while travelling from #Rome to #Firenze and #Bologna: this is the #FS ETR.401, built in the 1970s and, it seems, the world’s first #Pendolino tilting train in revenue earning service, mainly on the Rome to Ancona line, if I remember well.
Pictures taken, around the turn of the millennium, on the #Lötschberg line, while travelling from #Spiez to #Brig in a Swiss fresh air coach. This is an #InterCity from #Basel, probably IC 331 “Val d’Ossola”, with the first six air-conditioned cars, provided by #FS #Trenitalia, going as far as #Milano
.
An #FS #GrandConfort type @diningcar is seen here in the consist of an #Artesia #Paris to #Italy overnight service in the early 2000s. Some of these cars, having been rebuilt, now operate as mixed 2nd class seating, wheelchair-space, buffet-counter cars in #Frecciabianca #InterCity type services in Italy.
With #FS #Trenitallia #InterCity Notte #ICN to #Trieste. The train originates in #Roma Termini and is currently one of the few Italian night trains that include a #T3 #T3S sleeper. These cars, rebuilt from the T2s type, feature a number of cabins with en-suite facilities.

More fun things you can do once your verbs are broken into two.

Arriving at #Salerno on board an #FS #Trenitalia night train from northern #Italy. Breakfast
️
is served in the sleeper cabin as the train passes Mount Vesuvius.
Taking an #FS #Trenitalia #InterCity from #Trieste. Nice views of the #Adriatic just after departure. The train is in push-pull mode, with a Class E.401 (a rebuilt E.402A) on one end and a cab car (driving trailer) on the other. No @diningcar though, just vending machines for snacks and drinks.
An #FS #Trenitalia #ETR500 #EurostarItalia trainset, parked at #Venice Santa Lucia station in the early 2000s. These trains are currently labelled #Frecciarossa and painted accordingly.
On the very left of the photo: the @diningcar and a sleeper of the #Artesia night train arriving from Paris.
#Ancona yard in Autumn 2004: this is #FS #ETR.401, built in the 1970s and, it seems, the world’s first #Pendolino tilting train in revenue earning service. The unit is being preserved as museum stock, I think.
The technology has since been widely used to increase running speed, and to reduce centrifugal force, when travelling through curves.
#FS-UAE Launcher has been updated to work with Debian testing (Yay!)
A photo taken at #Roma Termini if I remember well, in the early 2000s. This is an #FS “Self Service” @diningcar on an Italian #InterCity in #XMPR livery, mainly delivering snacks. One of these cars is currently in use, by TTI, Treni Turistici Italiani, now with table seating and full restaurant service.
#Linux #fs
mmm... les performances globales d'XFS sont vraiment bonnes.
Ceci dit, j'aurais du mal à me passer des fonctionnalités de btrfs (sous-volumes, snapshots, déduplication, compression...)

While travelling from #Venice to #Milan in November 2002 I came across this #FS #Trenitalia class E.402A electric working an eastbound #Intercity. Back then the loco was still displaying its original red and white livery and the “logo inclinato” on its nose.

Evening at #Firenze station in April 2010: this is #EuroNight 226 #Palatino, on its way from #Rome to #Paris
, hauled by an #FS Class E.402A electric. The first car behind the loco is an #SNCF couchette, followed by #Trenitalia ones. There should also be a @diningcar somewhere in the consist.
#Trieste Centrale earlier today: this is the #FS #Trenitalia #Frecciarossa to #Milan, via Venezia #Mestre and #Verona. A Class 700 #ETR unit is working this service. This train type was originally built as #AnsaldoBreda #V250 for the #Amsterdam
to #Brussels
#Fyra highspeed programme.
Starting today: a direct #ÖBB #Railjet service from #Munich via #Innsbruck
to #Ancona
.
This reminds me of a visit to Ancona in 2004 where I photographed the #FS #ETR302 #Settebello, awaiting restoration for heritage excursions. These units used to work the most prestigious Italian trains until the mid 1980s.
