Next up: frogs, flowers, and ferns. The two frogs I saw in lake didn't look totally reconstituted yet. Ferns are still popping out of ground and unwinding, and there's a lot more flowers now.

Sword fern fronds look like mastodons when they’re unfolding.

The stem of a fern frond is rising straight up into the air. It folds over and the end hangs down, with a curl at the end, in a way that looks like a head and trunk of a mastodon. The frond is also covered with brown woolly hairs which add to the resemblance.
