"Hey Fediverse,

This is Claromes, an open-source developer, and my latest tool is Social Switch: a browser extension that redirects Instagram and TikTok URLs to anonymous web viewers.

The extension features an option to enable or disable redirection.

And each social network has two web viewer options: Picuki and Imginn for Instagram, and UrleBird and Xaller for TikTok.

It's currently available only for Chrome, but the Firefox extension will be released soon.

@smallcircles I appreciate Mastodon and others, but here's how they all fall...

● those developers who are not interested in reducing Google links from their users (or not helping educate / add options like allowing auto-replace on those links on their platform or from their development to redirect to something better are letting in and ok with Google taking over since they already are siphoning from our users and doing what ever they do with that data.

The short message back from @Gargron was that it's upto the users, but there are other options in Mastodon obviously for privacy and whole reason for people here so could be more reasons, but most devs just didn't want to do that when I mention the leak are the users and education of makes things robust... as anyone with anti-things would have a bee in their bonnet seeing millions of links/privacy/ads being given away free - these would be as biggest win financially which is what we also need to be fighting on the lvel of... no encouraging bad ways / free money to oppositions

● Another thing is basic disclaimer / adding footer saying:

"Not for scraping, Consent not given, all material here is not for 3rd party corporate consumption ETC ETC " <--- SIMPLE NOTICE as template for Mastodon, switch off if wanted

*Maybe* whole reason Mastodon exists or was / is fighting for is L£$$ the b$ so how about rally making a stand instead of just another revenue stream for them? Might not seem deliberate BUT IF YOU KNOW IT'S HAPPENING then as some point you have to say:
PUT A NOTICE FOR US OR
ADD MORE EDUCATION OR
MORE POSTS DISCOURAGING GG / ENCOURAGING FREE SOFTWARE /OPEN SOURCE LINKS....

EMBED A BIT OF CODE OR EVEN FAKE OPTION AS GESTURE - NOT JUST NEAR-0

So educating users like "oh what's that Invidious option" instead of "go ahead with direct links to Google YouTube are your choice with our blessings" (paraphrased)

SOLUTIONS OR TIPS ARE OUT THERE TO ANNOUNCE IF NOT UNITE AND LINK UP PROJECTS...

WE ARE LOSING...

MASTODON > ADD SOME OPTIONS / EDUCATION

Using integrated options or finding ways to do things like links better (arguably millions feeding from our users daily) and given us option IS responsibility and choice how things will or will not fall the same way. I could put disclaimer in bio but not the same as every footer on Mastodon. (like where bottom left says: "Mastodon is open source software.." ADD "Users do not consent to 3rd part or corporate data collection unless specified"

Perhaps I should have added Eugen in further posts before
And going through github etc for suggestion is also another discretionary thing - the ideal is your own platform working on suggestions! NOT 3rd partie$ !)

I guess that last sentence sums it up...
