I see NixOS hasn’t taken the same security measures in its compiler settings that Gentoo has.
I turned off the stack canaries in Gentoo, but I am referring to the thing where all executables are made the same type of file as a shared library.
I used to do the same thing on my own long ago, actually, but quit doing so after a while. I think it was one of the things done as part of OpenWall or grsecurity measures I had adopted while still on Slackware.

Kolejna z tych baz danych zawodzi zaufanie społeczności i zmienia licencję.

I tak w kółko.
#Balkonsolar sagt: #Gentoo updaten!
I don't remember what put me onto #Linux initially, but I liked the idea of a free and open operating system when I read about it.
I started with Slackware on an old Pentium desktop PC in 2001, then installed Mandrake off a Linux Magazine cover CD, and finally, when I got broadband in 2003, I settled on #Gentoo Linux. The tinkering aspect appealed a lot to me back then.
Scientist here, albeit I am a Computational Biologist. I normally don't respond to people for the reasons you outlined above. I personally don't respond unless I can contribute helpful information that people have asked for.
But yes, this has been studied.

arXiv.orgHaving problems getting my HP laptop to run efistub. It just keeps saying there is nothing there on the reboot. Have it setuo fkr secureboot but haven't finished enabling secureboot. Just trying to get a basic install running first. And cert signing shouldnt cause issues.
@mainframed767 oh look, ubunu legislating their flawed sense of morality in distro tools again, despite no one asking for their decisions. moving on...
oh hey, guess who doesn't do this type of abusive "this release introduces breaking changes to core expectations"

Typowy ja:
1. Chwila przestoju w robocie, więc zacznij nadrabiać w #Gentoo zaległości.
2. W międzyczasie wskakują nowe jądra, więc zajmij się nimi.
#RUNBSD! But BoxyBSD now also starts to support #Linux! We're starting soon with the Linux support for already present users, offering free boxes:
* #AlmaLinux
* #Alpine
* #Debian
* #Devuan
* #CentOS
* #Fedora
* #Gentoo
* #OpenSuse
* #OpenEuler
* #RockyLinux
Just next to our core OS like #FreeBSD, #OpenBSD, #NetBSD, #MidnightBSD and #DragonflyBSD (and #illumos). This should also make the step easier to compare and test different scenarios where BSD provides a different behavior compared to Linux systems.
Thanks to @gyptazy for the implementation!

New #Gentoo box setup, I notice genkernel is deprecated now. make localmodconfig helps a bit, but why does my .config file disappear when I tell genkernel to use it? --kernel-config=.config behaviour does not compute
I have been trying to find this for a bit. Finally someone in a Reddit thread linked it.
For people using the Gentoo Distribution Kernel, this can be used to more easily handle your config.
Discovered that the latest emerge -DUuva world pulled in a firefox-bin that needs wayland although I declined via use flag. End of story: compiling firefox (non-bin).
Yeah, I've never understood the appeal of compiling EVERYTHING yourself. Sounds like a waste of time to me. But someone else can probably enlighten me. No hate, I just don't get the motivation behind it
So I am trying to ensure the setups on my laptops are secureboot setup this time. I figure its a decent idea to keep with some kind of standard there.
I rebuilt the HP because my full disk encryption setup was just too irritating. Gonna have to just keep encryption to external drives I suppose.
