It looks like the "peace police" did an actual police, by which I mean they overreacted and killed an innocent person.

At a 50501 demonstration in Salt Lake City, the organizers effectively deputized a group of "peacekeepers" with guns. Their claim is that, once the demo was underway, they saw someone walking into the crowd with an AR-15 (Utah is an open-carry state) and thought that they were about to witness, in their words, a "mass-casualty event". So they shot first, hitting both a bystander, Arthur Folasa Ah Loo (known as Afa), and the guy with the AR-15, a young activist named Gamboa. Afa, unfortunately, died.

Gamboa, on the other hand, is very much alive. He's so alive that, after getting treated for his wound at the hospital, he was arrested and charged with murder, despite not firing a shot.

The 50501 people immediately took to Bluesky to praise their own "peacekeepers" and describe Gamboa as a "depraved and disturbed domestic terrorist," only to quietly delete that a few hours later. Now they're starting to walk it all back with a "We don't know what happened..."

I mean, I'd like to agree with the 50501 people when they say that, if there were no guns at the demo, this wouldn't have happened. At the same time, *it was their own people with guns who did the shooting*.

I got a lot of other thoughts about this as well, but I'm going to keep them in my head for now. It's late, and the world is too crazy to deal with at the moment.
