Not only that, but most of the alleged proof of its value is really measuring how the kids who do their homework are also the ones best supported in general. Homework is more likely to actually be done by kids with supportive adults at home. It's a signal, not a cause. If anything, it amplifies the gap between kids who do & don't have that support.

This podcast on the use of #LLMs like #ChatGPT in #highschool writing is really good. I especially like the end when they talk about interviews with the kids and get their perspective directly. I’m mostly a hater on LLMs but this is balanced and thought provoking. The #podcast is called “Search Engine” and the episode is “Playboi Farti and his #AI #homework machine”

@Bluedonkey@mastodon.socialThis is not that difficult to solve (it came from my 13 yr old's homework), but it also didn't take long (and was running on a relatively inexpensive machine locally, with a low cost GPU).
Sure, this could be used to cheat and get your homework done for you by a machine, but it also shows *how* to solve these, step by step (and the thinking section before this was also useful for that, explaining very clearly how to go about solving these).

in the late #90s and early #2Ks, when the teacher gave me a #research #homework or when came my turn to #write on the #class' #textbook , I had to research the #information on many #books & stuff, so that kind of research took a long #time , now, you can ask the A.I. to do a #specific & #spicy research, & you will get the result in mere #seconds, my point is: #years ago, when you hear something, you invest a lot of time but you verify, now ppl are too #lazy for that
