If you're at #EGU25 next week and are curious about the new CZ-NoN project to explore how to integrate global Critical Zone science, please stop by my poster on Tuesday! #criticalzone #ecology #hydrology #soilscience #geology #earthscience

The Big Data Cluster

For some afternoon reading.

University of #Vermont-based Cluster member Kristen Underwood is one of the co-authors of this March 2025 paper published in the Journal of the American Water Resources Association.

The Big Data Cluster

This #OpenAccess paper co-authored by members of the Big Data Cluster is the perfect addition to your afternoon.

Here's "Solute export patterns across the contiguous USA" published by Hydrological Processes in 2024.

The annual Alaska Spring River Break-up webinar will be tomorrow 11am-Noon AKDT. Join Kyle Van Peursem (NWS Alaska-Pacific RFC) and me as we review where conditions are at now and potential risks as Alaska’s big rivers transition from ice cover to open water in the coming weeks. Interested in #hydrology? Here's a good one for ya.

Our main well went FUBAR. Tech out now, found the problem, a glitched relay switch to the well, so it is in-op at the moment.

But here's where it gets interesting.

He said there is a SECOND well that we thought was long dead for 25+ years but still wired in, but with a relay bypass, the holding tank was getting water. So old well maybe is now good and we might have 2 working wells????

Pulling water from Middle Earth is still amazing to me.

I was reading - with a mug of tea - The Patch (link above) by John McPhee, a decades-old favourite author of mine - and came across this short essay amongst many fine others…

Dust^2

"Dust has the potential to play a significant role in the nutrient dynamics of alpine watersheds with important ecological implications."

This paper, co-authored by Cluster member Janice Brahney, is an example of how scientists are peeking under the hood of the #CriticalZone to see how it's all working together.
