"- After an initial surge of interest in its “initial coin offering,” or ICO, the Bankera digital currency collapsed, leaving many investors facing losses.

- Meanwhile, a Lithuanian company that played a key role in the ICO transferred over 45 million euros to a bank account in the Pacific island nation of Vanuatu.

- The Vanuatu bank that received the funds had been purchased by three of Bankera’s Lithuanian co-founders shortly before the ICO ended.

- Soon after, the bank began issuing millions of euros in loans to companies owned by the same trio — money that was then used to build a luxury real-estate portfolio, including a villa on the French Riviera and high-end property in Lithuania.

- The Vanuatu bank also loaned millions more directly to the three founders, in many cases with the loans marked as being for “personal use.” These loans, like those for the properties, were guaranteed by companies the trio also owned and which were central to the ICO.

- Lawyers for one of the co-founders’ companies denied that the ICO was in any way fraudulent but declined to comment on specific transactions."

Monty Python's Norwegian Blue exhibits more life than the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). Firewalls itself from the public by hiding its service email address, no whistleblower comms, ignores written correspondence, fends off interaction by use of online form. Vital function, poorly undertaken. Still waiting for answer to under what law does DVLA breach data law by selling keeper data to the private parking cowboys.

UK watchdog probes TikTok over children’s data.

Britain’s data watchdog has opened an investigation into how TikTok uses children’s personal information to recommend content to them.

The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) said on Monday the investigation was in response to “growing concerns” about platforms using recommender systems to serve teenagers inappropriate or harmful content.

Why is this important you ask?

Because I am thinking of releasing a PyQt application for Linux soon that solves a particular problem. If I ever decided to release it on Microsoft Windows, I might have to change the application icon from PNG to ICO.

ORG is calling for clear rules to govern how our data is used by UK Political Parties, backed up with enforcement by the ICO and Electoral Commission.

All parties must be transparent about the companies they work with, their financial arrangements and the processes used to protect voters' privacy.

@Privacymatters There's push back against "consent or pay" in the EU, in contrast to the UK's "support the profits of businesses over the rights of individuals" ICO. Perhaps calling it "pay or consent" makes it clearer this is not free choice, and is more like a holdup.

Regulations, charters and watchdogs are important: privacy, human rights, the protection of the environment etc. are issues that require more than just individual choices and technical fixes.

We need stronger data protection laws and enforcement with a guarantee that age verification systems are private, safe and secure.

The new plans miss this vital step at a time when the Data Use and Access Bill (UK) threatens to weaken data rights, as well as the Information Commissioner's Office already having a poor record of enforcing the law.

This year we published our report into the UK data watchdog (Information Commissioner's Office).

We found an overly cautious approach to the enforcement of data protection law. This prioritises government and corporate preferences over the need for personal security.

We need strong data protection laws and a strong regulator who will act as the first line of defence for the British public.

"The UK’s data protection regulator has criticised Google over its decision to allow advertisers to use technology to track users which is harder to control or block.

The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) said Google’s decision was “irresponsible” and accused the company of a U-turn, having previously prohibited the use of so-called fingerprinting technology.

Fingerprinting involves collecting pieces of information about a device’s software and hardware which can be combined to uniquely identify a device and its user – and the ICO has warned that this technology is harder to wipe than clearing cookies or site data from a web browser, meaning users could continue to be identified by advertisers."
