Thou shalt not destroy user data without either a warning or an undo. Breaking this rule ruins the discoverability of your UI, because now users are afraid that playing around to figure out how the thing works will result in more work for them.

I feel like #Atlassian could do the whole software industry a huge favor by publishing an anonymized version of their internal org-chart.

Their products are a case study in Conway's Law. Concrete example: #JIRA lets you turn a subtask into a task. Do you do it by clicking on the picture of a subtask and selecting "Change issue type?" No! There are no options there to change a subtask to a task! Don't be silly; why would there be?

... but under the three-dot menu, subtasks have a "Convert to issue" option that pops open a wizard to do it...

(I'm guessing that under-the-hood, subtasks and tasks are represented as entirely different data models, and the team that wrote the conversion tool to promote subtasks isn't connected closely enough to the team that manages task categories.)
