Dead #tree in #LakeNaivasha, #Kenya.
Due to rising waterlevel, trees hitherto on dry ground for most of the year are now always in water, which kills them in the long run.

In #Kenya, girls are sold into marriage to stave off starvation from #drought

Crypto, Cypher Oi! Oi! Oi!
There is always a lot of grumbling about the crypto and cypherpunk scene, all scammers, fraudsters and most likely they are in cahoots with Elon Musk. The strange thing is that Snowden and Assange have some sympathy for it and at least Snowden is also active on Nostr. A good reason to take a closer look at it.

Nostr and the whole crypto area, the DAOs and the bitcoiners and the lunarpunks are not good people. They don’t want to be. If you move in that area, you have to be aware (as you do on the whole internet, by the way) that it is a “no trust” environment. Nobody is on your side. This is not because everyone is so evil. Rather, it is because structures are created in which I do not have to trust anyone. Paradoxical as our times are, this is the only way to create trust among anonymous actors.

Right now, 99.99% of Bitcoin users are people who want to get rich. You can’t stop that because it’s a decentralized currency with no regulatory authorities. But it still remains an emancipatory tool. This can be seen especially in Africa, where there are hardly any meaningful state structures in some areas. Crypto plays a major role there and is massively supported by the evil international cyberpunk scene.

And you?

A list of cancelled and retained USAID contracts presented to the US Congress indicates that at least nine African nations may have lost all projects…Analysis of the list by two research fellows at the Centre for Global Development shows the cuts are deepest in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Uganda, South Africa, Kenya and Tanzania. Across 44 African countries, they amount to nearly $4 billion in lost funding. —From “The Continent” #Africa #USAID #ForeignPolicy #DRC #Ethiopia #Uganda #Kenya #Tanzania #SouthAfrica #RepublicansDidThis #TheContinent

Climate Stewards NL

“Blue Hotel”

Does it remind you about Chris Isaak's song? 😁

There are a lot of such small hotels in towns and villages we passed through during our safari. This one in Ntulelei, on the road between Nairobi and the Masai Mara National Reserve, was one of the most “attracting”.

@mhoye remote events are also good for our planet.

Speaking of events #wikimania conference by #wikimedia movement is really great. During pandemic it was just online but they brought the local culture in by showing us e.g. how to buy and make food.

They have brought real time translators into the webinars to give us easier access to the knowledge of our global movement.

I think we appreciate the #globalsouth in our movement but maybe the people living there dissagree. Nevertheless this year the event is in #Kenya and I'm doing it remotely. Last year I travelled from Finland to Poland by bus&train so now I appreciate the time I save.

“Grant's zebra”

More Grant’s zebras are in the wild than any other species or subspecies of zebras. Unlike Grevy and mountain zebras, they are not endangered.

Grant’s zebras eat the coarse grasses that grow on the African plains, and they are resistant to diseases that often kill cattle, so the zebras do well in the African savannas.

However, recent civil wars and political conflicts in the African countries near their habitats has caused regional extinction, and sometimes zebras are killed for their coats, or to eliminate competition with domestic livestock.
