Becoming a competent outsider:

"To become competent outsiders, students need to learn how science produces reliable knowledge."

Why are our meetings still full of lectures? Because many of our leaders think the only way to learn is to listen to teachers lecture.

I think the primary difference between someone stupid and someone not is having a naturally curious nature, and interest in #learning once you don't have to anymore.

Ask a stupid perso the last time they read something where they felt like they learned, and they'll give you a stupid look, having no answer as they haven't bothered since they graduated.

Some people definitely have trouble absorbing info, but I'm pretty sure stupidity is a manifestation of laziness.

Been having this conversation multiple times lately: "AI is going to replace programmers" (or at least fundamentally change what it means to be one). Had it over dinner last week and then again with another friend this week. And I kept thinking that we've been here before. Assembly programmers were supposed to disappear when we got high-level languages. But they didn't disappear, they just spread out to places where that expertise actually matters.

The pattern really is about commoditization. More people can do a "good enough" version of the skill. Be it driving a car or building hacky tools that are held together with digital duct tape, but solve real problems. That's what's happening now with AI genies: more people can get "good enough" output. The question is figuring out which skills you need to be actually good at vs. what you're fine with being mediocre at (and understand when mediocre isn't good enough).
