Help me out here. I've always known this word: wauchly (not sure of the spelling). Meaning something that is loose or shoogly.

Anyone else familiar with this word? Can anyone confirm the spelling?

Here's a cool German expression: "als Tiger gesprungen und als Bettvorleger geendet". Leap like a tiger and end up as a bedroom rug.

The Vulgar Tongue

HOIST. To go upon the hoist; to get into windows accidentally left open: this is done by the assistance of a confederate, called the hoist, who leans his head against the wall, making his back a kind of step or ascent.

I was just thinking about how strange it is that fantasy and historical figures in US media almost always speak with an English accent. For once, I'd like to hear elves that sound like they're from New Jersey.

Also for my British friends, is it weird that wizards and Julius Caesar just sound a bit posh?

I keep thinking "It's ridiculous that people don't know what this word means and can't use it correctly". But then I remember that I learned those words half a century ago from books that were even older than that at the time. So it would actually be kind of surprising if most young people knew them in 2025.

I used to be a boy who spoke like an old book. Now I'm 52 and speak like an even older book.

TENDER PARNELL. A tender creature, fearful of the least puff of wind or drop of rain. As tender as Parnell, who broke her finger in a posset drink.
