Comparing "The Shop Around the Corner" and "You've Got Mail."
First is a Nerdwriter video comparing how the two movies portray a scene in the story; following that is a link to a very interesting essay by Daniel Lavery on "The Shop Around the Coner."
#Bales2023FilmChallenge July 1: A #joke for #InternationalJokeDay
The great Garbo was known for her beauty, her coolness, her tragedy, everything but her laughter. Such a typecast it became that the tagline for *Ninotchka* (1939) – Garbo laughs! – is a #joke in itself.
Penned by the great Billy Wilder, the Ernst #Lubitsch directed comedy unexpectedly temporarily revived #Garbo's career, who had by the time 1938 came around had become box office.
We're done now with winter, right? For me, the season isn't over 'til the tall man laughs. Behold: Gary Cooper in Bluebeard's Eighth Wife, a #Lubitsch comedy. https://jeffheinrich.com/Winter-2022-23-on-Blu-ray

3 things about IF I HAD A MILLION [1932]
1. Raspberry.
2. He’ll need to get his hat reblocked.
3. All she wants is to make some biscuits and have a cat.
Directed by Ernst #Lubitsch, Norman Taurog, Stephen Roberts, Norman Z. McLeod, James Cruze, William A. Seiter, and H. Bruce Humberstone!
You should watch the whole film, but if you've only got 2 minutes to spare, then I implore you to check out the #Lubitsch episode of IF I HAD A MILLION. Instant smile on your face.
I watched TROUBLE IN PARADISE (1932) and I thoroughly enjoyed it. One of the best romantic comedies I've seen in a while.

Being on a #Lubitsch kick I've watched "Trouble in Paradise" (
) and "Heaven Can Wait" (__). Have previously seen "Ninotchka" & "To Be or Not to Be" (both =
) and next up is "The Shop Around the Corner."
After that I suppose I'll sift thru some of his other films in no particular order, just to see what's what.
