There's currently a bug in macOS Sequoia right now where it won't remember your "Local Network Access" permissions. Here's a quick fix: go into System Preferences →Privacy & Security → Local Network → manually select everything you've given access, uncheck them, then check them all again. You'll need to do this upon reboot (sometimes?). #apple #macos

macOS folks – I’m using the Mail app with a bunch of rules to filter my newsletters, etc. into mailboxes so the important stuff from people I know doesn't get lost in the avalanche.

Every time I add an address to a rule, I get the dialog below. It doesn't seem to do anything. There's already a mailbox selected, in fact the message that the newly-edited rule applies to is selected as well, but the clicking “Apply” doesn’t do anything at all.

I still have to get the rule to apply to the mailbox by invoking the Apply Rules command in the Message menu.

Am I missing something, or is this another example of an Apple QC fail?

В конце декабря прошлого года я купил с рук старый iMac 2007 года. Всего за 6300 руб с дефектом матрицы. И поскольку это мой первый imac, то освоение новой техники, я б даже сказал нового мира, Apple заняло 3 месяца.

Думал, переустановить macOS можно будет легче лёгкого. Но оказалось это очень сложно.

Опыта с UEFI не было. Пришлось изучать эту технологию. Технология, к слову, оказалась весьма удобная. Но у iMac UEFI-прошивка оказалась очень специфическая и капризная.

Сделать загрузочную флешку с инсталляцией macOS оказалось невозможно без самой macOS. Флешку, сделанную с помощью TransMac или BelenaEtcher, iMac не считает загрузочной

Какие-то пакеты в дистрибутиве оказывались битые. Пришлось распаковывать, править конфигурационные файлы инсталлятора и упаковывать заново.

Процесс инсталляции мог вывести "Осталось 2 минуты" и сделать паузу на час и более.

Чтоб мои мучения не пропали даром, я написал статью и опубликовал на Хабре полторы недели назад. Статья принесла всего +2 в карму. Ну что ж, хоть что-то. Если этим двоим она помогла в ихней нелёгкой жизни с компьютерами Apple, то я рад.

Hive mind: any suggestions?

On my Macbook Air, Safari has been behaving weirdly when I plug in my external monitor. Many (but not all?) of the Safari windows get rendered full-window (even though they weren't when I was only on the laptop, nor before I disconnected and reconnected).

I had suspected a bug with BetterSnapTool, which I was using, but I've deleted that and rebooted several times since.

I *think* this may have started happening at the last Mac OS update.

It's not terrible, just really really annoying. So far web searching hasn't yielded any hints. Any thoughts?
