Sadly, #OsmAnd/ #OsmAnd+ is not a good replacement for #Google #Maps. Not for navigating at least.

I wish there was a way I could plan a route either on my desktop (
#Linux) or web because the UI/ UX in OsmAnd+ is so fucking cluttered and "busy" that it's damn near next to impossible to actually do something.

I'm trying to plan a route from my current location to two destinations.

I'm starting at Point "A", my current location.

I put in the address for Point "C", my ultimate destination.

But then I realize I need to add a Point "B". But as soon as I go to add Point "B" it gets placed at the end.

And there's no way to move Point "B" to actually be my first stop.

Editing the locations doesn't work either because now I'm stuck with two identical destinations.

There needs to be separate modes for the app. Normal mode and Advance mode. Right now some settings are duplicated across multiple pages and multiple menus.

I HATE THIS FUCKING APP!

(But I hate Google Maps even more.)

Oh well.

Oh look,
#MapQuest is still in business.....

"In a world where Apple Maps, Google Maps, and even Bing (yes, Bing) have bent the knee and rebranded the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America, MapQuest has taken a different approach: pure, unfiltered chaos and hilarity. Introducing 'Name Your Own Gulf', the feature nobody asked for but everyone definitely needs."

I read about #MapQuest today and their new page gulfof.mapquest.com/ and how they were not renaming the "Gulf of Mexico". Bravo MapQuest !

I thought, maybe they have an app for the phone and i does directions. I downloaded it & I will be testing it over the next while. It isn't as full featured as other apps, but collectively we have to support the companies that are doing 'right' and I realize that the world is in for a lot of pain and I am signing up.

As a MapQuest alum from the mid aughts when we were dueling with Google to be the most popular maps app I’m pleased to see #MapQuest staging a comeback by being the sole maps-and-driving-directions app that isn’t caving to the embarrassing and deeply fascist “Gulf of America” edict.

Also cute that they created an app so anyone can pretend to be Glorious Emperor and rename the Gulf as they please. gulfof.mapquest.com/img/map?na

@bodhipaksa

How very clever of #MapQuest!

A great way to get the word out that there is an alternative to #Google Maps.

@cookiesinheaven Most important, the default #Mapquest setting is to call it the #GulfOfMexico

So in moving away from #Twitter, #meta and #google, I have rediscovered, #MapQuest and #Metacrawler.

I always thought web crawler became metacrawler.com, which then became Google. Apparently not.

And Google maps is the main Google thing that I use. Mostly for tracking the traffic while I'm driving somewhere.

And I've looked up the ownership of Metarawler and MapQuest.com as well. They may be toxic and corporate, I don't know. But they aren't those #fascist #oligarchs anyway.

As much as I like the idea of @openstreetmap, when I travel abroad I primarily use #Google Maps due to the latter’s accuracy (especially in non-English nations) compared to rivals.

For anyone suggesting #AppleMaps, let’s just say they still need to focus on fixing their data in #America 🇺🇸 (#Mapquest is better in my opinion).
