For their new Safe Streets Plan to reach #VisionZero, @alexkgellis in Providence, RI used my "Walk Potential" metric to better understand pedestrian demand in their city so infrastructure investment can be prioritized where it's most effective.

I'm considering rewriting the Walk Potential software as a #QGIS plugin. Let me know if that would make it more accessible for you to try!

A map of Pedestrian demand. Text reads: In some parts of the city, daily destinations are easier to reach by foot merely due to their proximity. Replicating a methodology for computing a walk index based on local destinations, this map identifies places where, if sufficient infrastructure exists, people are more likely to be able to walk to where they need to go. An analysis such as this could be the basis for differentiating design standards for crosswalks and other pedestrian accommodations, such as Portland’s designation of Pedestrian Districts.
