But if you have to choose, please fund PBS / NPR and local public media first: Trump and his billionaire allies are waging a war to gut public media. Independent voices matter.

GitHubWe're still looking for a Canadian hosting provider that offers a managed PostgreSQL service, if anyone knows of one.
I'm seeing random posts show up in my federated timeline from "@toa_Holoris@ wake.0am.jp".
I'm on a single user instance and the content does not appear to being boosted by anybody I follow, nor does it contain any hashtags I follow.
Any suggestions as to how?
I'm going to block them anyway.
Anyone notice that hashtags created from posts federated from bsky.brid.gy that include hashtags with punctuation point to a URL that still has them in it.
In this example, tag KilmarAbregoGarcia’s goes to URL https://oldfriends.live/tags/KilmarAbregoGarcia's on my instance. It is popping up a 404-error box but displaying KilmarAbregoGarcias results.
I hate 404 errors
As the admin of a 5 person hosted server, it often feels like we are left out of wider conversations. We don't see all comments from all users on posts of people we follow. Is there anything I can do as an admin to make sure we see as much content as possible? #Mastodon #Mastoadmin #Fediadmin #Admin
As one of the instances that has not defederated or blocked threads, I am following several threads users who are unlikely to join the fediverse any other way. One such user @nefreejacks recently enabled fediverse sharing, and I see their profile and I'm able to follow them. But I'm not seeing any of their posts. Other threads users I see after the expected delay but not from this account. Are there steps I should take to make sure the problem isn't on my side? #mastoadmin

Anyone know of a server manufacturer in Canada comparable to Supermicro?
Dear #MastoAdmins, is there a way to just delete account creation requests that require approval, without handling them? CLI would be fine, too.
Account creation needs to be approved depending on the mail provider. So a request can be approved or rejected in Mastodon's admin Interface, and the user gets an e-mail. I'd like to just delete the request without giving the SEO spammers any notice nor "e-mail reminder" that their attempt was not successful.
Okay, hello any fellow #mastoadmin and/or #hometown folks out there in the wubs, I am in need of some help.
I have twice now failed to do the far-overdue security update from v4.0.15+hometown-1.1.1 to v4.2.10+hometown-1.1.1 — the script I followed, and the errors I was getting from mastodon-web.service, are here: https://gist.github.com/robsimmons/6a55df68ed95a2370ae35a846953a6de

Some statistics from a smaller Germany based Mastodon instance (burningboard.net)
We currently have 109 active users (logged in during the last 30 days).
The PostgreSQL Database size is 16.6GB
The media-data (S3) size is 201 GB with 775544 files.
The monthly traffic is around 900GB, 82% of that is IPv6 and just 18% is legacy IPv4.
Hardware (VM Sizing):
- 8 Altara Neoverse-N1 ARM64 CPU cores
- 16 GB DDR4 Ram
- 100 GB NVMe SSD
Software-Stack:
- Debian GNU/Linux 12 (bookworm) aarch64
- Mastodon v4.3.7
- PostgreSQL 17.4
- Ruby 3.4.2
- Monitoring through Grafana/Loki and Uptime Kuma
The low-power ARM system can handle the Mastodon instance without issues and even has some headroom left for future growth
I think I've given up on getting Mastodon running in Docker. Not really necessary since the non-Docker solution is well-supported (and I have dedicated hardware set up to run it), and ultimately, didn't solve my overall problem, which was that upgrading brings my Raspberry Pi to its knees when it goes to optimize the web bits.
Quick poll for Mastodon server administrators : what is your biggest pain point between those two?
You can add a bit more detail in a reply, and I am not interested in other areas.
I'm in agreement with this lemmy.world post and will enforce the same policy here and on my other instances relating to the #Nicole spam issue.
Anybody working on maintaining #iftas fedicheck ? This was a pretty critical service that I feel like had a ton of potential. It's not even on github anymore ;_____;
Domain to watch: fediversechick.lol
It's currently hosting a GTS instance with a single solitary account on it (guess who's account). The thing was registered in March, but to my knowledge hasn't actually been throwing out the usual DM's. It may be an innocent site, but if your instance is proan to a lot of DM's from her you may want to consider a block to be safe. Mine doesn't get too much of her attention but some of the larger ones are definitely ones she's a fan of.
