Returning from the #spectrum24 conference. Saw an interesting talk yesterday on #rfswift , a project that build specialised docker containers for #rf #pentesting .. got some stickers so pimped my laptop with one.

Of course #spectrumconf24 had a lot more very interesting talk ranging from #meshnetworking and #schoolstations over #radioastronomy and #satcom to #m17 digital voice and opensource firmware for handheld radios

I understand.

I think #p2p communication apps like #Briar, capable of #MeshNetworking, are important in this context.

Especially in this era of widespread internet shutdowns.

And of frequent climate-change-induced disasters that destroy telecom and internet networks in the affected areas.

Another point: one can pull #Briar over bluetooth from a neighbouring device and install it, without need of an internet connection or even local wifi. Perceptive design choice, I think.

TIL that #ASUS's #AiMesh system is crap. (Actually, that was yesterday.)

See... I have a problem. My walls are thick. My building was build circa-ish WWII. When I work in my office, the signal is degraded.

Note that all of this would be solved if my apartment were properly wired to bring the Internet to the office and the living room... but one can only dream.

So I figured I'd just whip out a new node and set my router to use AiMesh.

I did this, and nothing connects to the new node.

I change this setting and that setting, and nothing wants to connect to the new node.

I have a Google Mini sitting literally feet away from the new node, and it is like the fucking new node has gonorrhea or something.

"Haha! You idiot! Everybody knows that AiMesh cannot work! Lolfart!"

But it did work! At the marital house that I shared with my ex-wife. We had a central fireplace with chimney that completely messed up the Wi-Fi. I just installed a new node to the mesh and it worked.

@alper @ajroach42 Cool! I wasn't tracking that effort at all, and had no idea how big it had gotten. It appears there's now a Layer 2 implementation of BATMAN ("batman-adv") with Linux kernel support that I'd never heard of either.
