@haui #BigBangTheory and #YoungSheldon feel to me like early efforts to put #LGBTQ characters in front of broader audiences. Coded and not discussed. Stereotypical, with a while male focus.
I’m glad they added a similar female character, but wasn’t impressed that only the two #neurodifferent coded characters were permitted to have a relationship. #LoveOnTheSpectrum does the same.
So I’m glad we’re more visible. I just wish it was more authentic.
If you want some information on getting #nextcloud #reverse-proxy going on #docker I made some documentation :

I made a pull to add it to their documentation but they dont want it. . Probably my #neurodifferent brain. #actuallyAutistic
We have a well drilled deep into the fractured bedrock of the Berkshire Hills. It is slightly acidic and moderately low in minerals (electrical conductivity of 50-100 μS/cm). After filtering through a bed of calcium carbonate to protect the pipes and sweeten the water (de-acidify), it is absolutely delicious.
I installed a restaurant grade faucet in my kitchen recently. Among the many other things I enjoy about it, one of the best came as a complete surprise.
Unlike residential faucets, the restaurant faucet does not have a traditional aerator. The faucet outlet is designed so that at high flows, the water forms a turbulent column of aerated water. But at low flows? Absolutely crystal clear laminar flow with hardly any disturbance. Just a slightly twisting bar of laminar flow. It is a thing of beauty.
And now, I find that I can only drink still water that has poured into my glass via laminar flow, like liquid glass, without the addition of tiny air bubbles. I just love watching it.
Has anyone else discovered the joy of laminar flow?
Yes. I’m

@LehtoriTuomo It's a relief to know there was a reason for the reluctance to socialise.

@lkanies @hmm_cook It may be worth clarifying what we’re motivating our #neurodifferent kids FOR?
We maintain #routines for daily living needs… getting ready school, homework, bath and bed time.
For #interests, it’s best to let them self-pilot. We can introduce them to new things and see what sticks. But are #allistic kids so malleable that it works differently for them? If anything, we worked to maintain multiple interests.

@splott I always feel some sense of disconnection with the world around me, but I find it important to have spaces or activities to help be recharge/recenter/regroup. So I find myself wondering if there were particular aspects of your old home that you can recreate in your new one to help build a sense of comfort and connection… #ActuallyAutistic #ADHD #AuDHD #neurodifferent @actuallyautistic

@theynege I would start by responding that no one should have to explain themselves. Why is everyone naturally expected to buy into #allistic expectations?
I would simpnyiffer that #neurodifferent people don’t often just socialize because. We often require some shared connection before we engage with people, partly because this requires a real expenditure of mental energy. And if we’re already drained for other reasons then it’s even less likely to occur.
@monkeyninja This trend away from trades and skills, in preference to Tech Bro IPO and standardized testing as a measure of success, has had some tremendous impacts on society and the economy. And in #neurodifferent circles there are opportunities for success lost when youth don’t have avenues for success that aren’t part of #ableist hegemony. Bring back skills and trades!! We need them! @actuallyautistic @actuallyadhd
@bynkii Where would one find such courses? They don't exist, because that sort of thing is supposed to be instinctive. For some of us, it isn't because we are somewhat autistic. Many of us become engineers because that's what we can do best. Sorry about our social skills, we're doing the best we can. #ActuallyAutistic #Neurodifferent
What is the one thing your younger self would not believe about life in the year 2024?
For me, it would be that he’d have figured out why people and social stuff is hard, and that it wasn’t the thing he thought it was then. Runner up is he’d be married and have a kid.

@zen_at_nite Whether as #LGBTQ or #neurodifferent, it’s amazing how just being our authentic selves can seem like a major political act. It reminds me of the motivation of gay and queer artists, like Tom of Finland, who shared their visions to raise awareness and sound a call to action.
The most important thing is to live by example and SHOW “them” that we are quietly and disturbingly “normal.”

@yourautisticlife I honestly think we could benefit from apps where we could fillter #allistics. Flagging ourselves as #neurodivergent or #neurodifferent just doesn’t seem to be enough. The folks who aught to self-filter don’t understand they they should or why it’s important. (sigh)
I like advocating for visibility for we #NeuroDifferent, #LGBTQ, etc folks. There are times when #ImposterSyndrome really kicks in. I was “nominated" to run a discussion panel at a work conference in a couple weeks, I was thrust into lead in a work diversity group (someone else moved on) and the first event I'm running is about to happen.
I'm feeling totally in the dark and just the teensiest bit terrified. Somehow things are happening. I'm thankful for that.
I’ve been laughing at this for nearly an hour. Anytime I look at it, I laugh out loud.

Hello #neurodifferent, I think an #introduction is required.
I am in my 40s and only just realising that i am probably #autistic.
I've been through a process over the last year or so that has brought me to a sudden realisation, particularly as my #ASD son is getting into his teens and I am recognising certain behaviours (but other factors too, including my sibling's diagnosis too). So I'm currently self-diagnosed, but when i made a list of traits, it got quite extensive, including long lists and mindmaps of traits I'd never thought were anything but "well thats just how I am". I am awaiting a formal assessment (which may be a 3 year wait) after which they will likely say I am #actuallyautistic . I know a lot of people on the autistic spectrum (both diagnosed and completely unaware) and can spot many traits a mile off, but seemingly it took many years to see them in myself.
So this is a bit of a learning journey for me, and when a formal diagnosis comes, I will need to decide who I disclose this to in the real world. Due to ableism in society and general lack of understanding, I'm really not sure how many people I will want to disclose to, after a lifetime of masking.
Hopefully a bit of interaction on this instance will be helpful for me. Especially looking to hear from people who have gone through diagnosis later in life.
Calling all #Neurodivergent #Artists living in #Scotland!
I'm looking for #ND #artists to participate in an exhibition celebrating #Neurodivergent art. If you're an #ND artist and living in #Scotland then drop me a line on here, or message me on one of the other social channels (insta: @alexmloveless, https://www.facebook.com/alexlovelessartist, or email via my website alexloveless.co.uk). If you know someone not on here that might be interested then please forward my details.
If you're in Scotland, then please boost this for a greater reach. Thanks!

www.facebook.comThis is a very good read for everyone, autistics and non-autistics, alike: “Why does masking autism contribute to burnout?” By Eloise Stark, an Autistic Ph.D. candidate from the University of Oxford, who was diagnosed at age 27.
---
“I am who I am, I’m autistic and proud, I’m different, and for the first time in my life, I’m okay with that.”
…
“Following the attack, I developed a recurrence of mental-health problems from my youth. I grew more and more unwell. I was anxious, obsessive, depressed, and began to have suicidal feelings. I was overwhelmed by the world, by just being, and didn’t know how to cope with it.”
…
“Masking autism wasn’t a sustainable or safe option. I was admitted to the hospital, yet every clinician disagreed on my diagnosis. Most remarked that they felt they were ‘missing something’.”
…
“‘All your life you have been masking autism.’”

I submitted a proposal to include the Neurodivergent and Autistic symbols in the default #emoji set of #fediverse software. You can read it here:
“Building a More Inclusive Future: Adding Neurodivergent and Autistic Symbols to Fediverse Default Emojis”
https://codeberg.org/fediverse/fediverse-ideas/issues/20
It was also added in #fedidocs as “Accessibility and Diversity best-practices” by Arnold Schrijver (@-smallcircles@social.coop ). It is available here: https://github.com/gabek/fedidocs/issues/14
Please reshare/boost/retoot, and hopefully we can all work together to achieve this goal.
Have a great day everyone!

Good day to all stakeholders, It is April 2023 and…

Hey #AuDHD, #Autistic, #NeuroSpicy, & #NeuroDifferent / #NeuroDivergent folks.
My browser decided for me that my tabs needed to be closed and so I sort of forgot about everything on those tabs including Mastadon for a while. Now I am back and things aren't good.
I'd like advice on how folks have found & made IRL friends with other ND folks. I want to make a very serious effort to find a local community before I give up on everything. Any advice or experiences that you have had would be appreciated.
