On June 30, 2025, at least 15 asylum seekers from #Afghanistan were notified that their applications had been rejected. This mass rejection appears to signal a de facto reclassification of Afghanistan as a "safe" country for the first time since its reoccupation by Taliban forces. It marks a further tightening of the #asylum process, in line with the policies of the Republic of #Cyprus, whose government takes pride in its harsh #deportation record and treats condemnation by the European Court of Human Rights as a badge of honour.

"Prior to American and Mexican control, much of the region that would come to be known as the borderlands had been inhabited for thousands of years by various #NativeAmerican peoples such as the #TohonoOodham, the #Cocopah, and many others. Following the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo in 1848 and the Gadsden Purchase in 1853, the U.S.-Mexico border cut right through these and other tribal homelands. The governments of both countries relegated the once wide-ranging tribes to much smaller pieces of land along the border, where many of these groups still reside.These tribes value the land along the border for the historical and cultural connections they have in this region."

'Khlebnikov’s fundamental political position was that the world should have no borders. That was partly due to his upbringing: the camels and horses in the camp where he grew up were not interested in borders. Throughout his life, he remained committed to the nomadic values of the Kalmyk people.

'But, although Khlebnikov hated territorial borders, he loved the idea of borders in time. He did not want fences, customs posts and certainly not trenches (remember this is going on during World War I, when people were fighting for a few yards of squelching, blood-stained mud). But what about borders in time? When people sing together, they must all keep to the same beat and sing each note together. Synchronising the voice means being aware of borders in time. Once the whole planet is singing, the only borders will be in the dimension of time. Natural rhythms, such as human heartbeats, the sun, the moon and the tides, would be used to set up these borders. He considered it vital not to transgress borders in time - they were needed if the world’s inhabitants were to get on with one another. By contrast, borders in space were in his eyes just bloodshed and murder.'
