@ross I recall looking for alternatives to Facebook and Twitter back in the mid 2010s (for whatever f*ckery they were up to then) and I set up a #p2 site so I could post there and then syndicate out to the other sites, #posse style, deciding on a post-by-post basis which networks to share out to. It worked pretty well but only really worked one-way - you could post out but couldn't see your mentions/link backs/comments on those other platforms.
I have my reservations about whether or not blogs (specifically my blog) should federate content via ActivityPub. Isn’t RSS enough?

IndieWebFor years (we are talking well over a decade here) I've tried to get a smooth workflow for discovery, reading, posting, sharing thoughts online.
And thanks to #RSS, my #remarkable2, Apple Shortcuts, @drafts, #Obsidian, @ia, @eleventy, and @n8n_io I'm finally getting there! Still some small annoyances to fix, but I'm getting there!
I made a sort of a New Year's resolution in December.
1. See more recent movies.
2. See more movies for the first time.
3. Write a blog entry (in Icelandic) about every movie I see.
Tonight I wrote the fifty-first entry this year. It was the 38th movie that I hadn't seen before though it was old. I've seen 36 movies made in the 2022-2025. I do have a target number for the year but I doubt I will stop when I get to it.
This is not just a movie watching exercise. It is also write fast and publish exercise. I done too much "finish it later" writing since blogs fell out of favor. And I often don't finish it later.
I am also doing a #POSSE thing - Post (on) Own Site Syndicate Elsewhere. The entry is first published on my blog but then I post it to Facebook.
Do you have recommendations for tools that can be easily deployed on an FTP to host your photos?
Prevent #Mastodon and #Bluesky from Generating #POSSE Link Previews
Earlier I posted that I’d resolved my new microblog POSSE posts from generating link previews on #Mastodon and #Bluesky. Today, I want to briefly run through how I managed that.

Yesterday I posted that I’d resolved my new microblog…
Hearthside@ivansenmarko I am trying to solve the problem of posting once, but driving engagement to a single platform. In my own personal case, I'd like to drive Bluesky users to Mastodon for further discussion. I appreciate how #BridgyFed handles this part of cross-posting, by linking back to my preferred platform in the post itself (see graphic). They also gracefully truncate to address character limits. So why not use them? Because they can't bridge *existing* accounts and have no plans to do so according to their FAQ. I do not want a "brid.gy" account.
I think #Openvibe has an opportunity to effectively get around this problem by allowing users to post to all platforms but link back to the one they prefer. In doing so, users will get the best of all worlds without committing to engagement on more than one.
For me, this feature alone would drastically increase the usefulness of the product.
Today I finally updated my microblog toolchain to properly rebuild my microblog lists after a new post: https://domm.plix.at/microblog.html - I generate a new post on my laptop via a #Perl script, which adds the post to an #SQLite DB and syncs it with #git to my server. A git hook there rebuilds my website (using my own static site generator) and also posts the fresh post to Mastodon: #POSSE

POSSE: Reclaiming social media...
I have all the RSS feeds listed here (https://reillyspitzfaden.com/feeds/), or you can follow all posts at this link: https://reillyspitzfaden.com/feed.xml
If you already follow my blog feed, it hasn't changed — I just added some additional ones. I also cleaned up the inclusion of the "reply by email" link — now I can have that on the full-text RSS feed, and have the "share" and "like" buttons only on the website.
I finally figured out how to manually generate RSS feeds so I can have separate ones for different kinds of posts!
This is a useful step in making it so I can use my site instead of social media — now I can POSSE shorter notes, people can follow what they want, and I don't have to worry about "spamming" the blog feed
