A really big volcano appearsxto have been lurking unnoticed on Mars.

' The newfound volcano is 450 kilometers (280 miles) wide and, even eroded as it is, reaches elevations of more than 9 kilometers (close to 30,000 feet). It dwarfs Earth’s largest volcano, Mauna Loa, which is 8 km tall from seafloor to summit, and spans 120 kilometers on its largest side. Mars, however, tends to have larger volcanos .. '

Finished a painting tonight! Presenting “Ice Cliffs of Pluto”, 7x10”, watercolor on cotton.

I’ve been bogged down in a larger piece I’m working on, so it was delightful to immerse myself in something more textural and abstract. (I’m getting my toothbrush spatter technique down lol.)

Still in listening/learning mode in this space, but time for an #introduction. I’m Sarah, I live in #WashingtonDC. I am a #scientist and an #artist. I love the #SolarSystem and am more than a little obsessed with the #Moon. I’m working hard to make sure that when #NASA sends humans back to the #lunar surface we get the maximum #science value out of it. My cat #Luna is more famous than I am. #Artemis #SpaceExploration #planets #LunarGeology #PlanetaryGeology #sciart #watercolor #acrylic #graphite
