Viele Krickenten, dazwischen wenige Tafel- und Schnatterenten, teilen sich einen Rest flüssiges Flachwasser auf einem zufrierenden Teich.

A bit of #BirdPhotography, all #Ducks, from yesterday's visit to #KenfigPool. Unfortunately, not the sharpest of shots as they were mostly at some distance and have been heavily cropped. They are, clockwise from top left;

Pochard:

7 ducks fly in formation from right to left. Below is water and behind, out of focus, golden reeds and scrub covered sand dunes. There are 5 male ducks with bright reddish-brown heads, black breasts and tails and pale grey bodies. The 2 females have lighter brown heads and more mottled grey/brown bodies

Wigeon:

A male wigeon rears up out of the water, spreading it's wings wide. It's head and neck are chestnut, It has a yellow forehead, pink breast, grey body, white belly and white wing patches.

Tufted and Long-Tailed Ducks:

A lone Long-Tailed Duck swims between a pair of Tufted Ducks. The Long-Tailed duck is side on, It has brown and white markings, A dark beak with a pinkish band. It's head is mostly white with a dark cap and cheek patch. It has a disappointingly short tail. The tufted ducks are facing the camera with a female on the left of the picture and a male on the right. The female is a dark brown colour and the male mostly black with white sides. They both have broad beaks, bright yellow eyes and "tufts" of feathers at the back of their heads which are pressed flat in the photo.

Northern Shoveler and Teal in Flight:

A single teal leads a group of Northern Shoveler in flight across water from right to left. The teal is a male and has a chestnut coloured head with broad green eye-patches, a spotted chest, grey lower sides. There are 3 female shovelers and 2 male. The females are mottled brown while the males have dark green heads, with white breasts and chestnut flanks. Both have huge spatula-shaped bills and patches of light blue and green on their wings.

A very peaceful three hours at Bowling Green Marsh this morning. It was teeming with birds including #Avocet, #Dunlin, #Curlew, Black-tailed Godwit, #Redshank, #Snipe (11), Spotted Redshank (1), Bar-tailed Godwit (1), #Greenshank (1); #Pochard, #Wigeon, #Pintail, #Mallard, #Shoveler, #Shelduck, Tufted Duck as well as some pleasant company and a flask of tea.
