Whenever I see anyone mention #American #Primeval, I get some cognitive dissonance, because I'm a big fan of the #British series #Primeval, which is about something *completely* different. It's even weirder because there was a short-lived sequel series titled Primeval: New World (set in #Canada, not the #US, but still). Not that a crossover wouldn't be fun ...

Here's a #scifi thing. The series #primeval is being repeated on one of the free channels in the UK.

I've tried to get into it on several occasions since it originally aired but never succeeded tbh.

Maybe I am just too much of a sci-fi old git but it just seems like a precis for every episode goes like: "Prehistoric monster comes through an 'anomaly' but luckily there's a pretty girl in a bra-top and lycra legs to save the day, and a conflicted 'science guy' to scratch his chin about it all."

My brief visit to #CostaRica, my mother's birthplace, almost 30 years ago, was at the start of the #ecotourism trend described in this article, and was nothing at all like the author's experience.

We stayed in #SanJose, but I did visit the #CloudForest (and a river tour and my then third #volcano, #Arenal). It is a beautiful country.

The #ferns especially struck me as #primeval; I imagined dinosaurs eating or wading through them, they were so massive.

Hello, all. I've been around for a few days but haven't yet made an #introduction post. So here we go.

I'm a #bioinformatics consultant with [The Bioinformatics CRO](https://www.bioinformaticscro.com/) working on a variety of small and large projects ranging from fundamental genomics to clinical decision support. Before that, for several years I was a postdoc and ORISE fellow specializing in high-altitude medicine and physiology at the University of Colorado Altitude Research Center. My academic background is a nearly even mix of #biostatistics, machine learning, and biology.

The ARC* has been sadly moribund for a few years, but thanks to collaborations with other groups, we're [starting to get more active again](https://harcsummit.org/). Hopefully I will have more to say about that in the future. Meanwhile, feel free to ask me anything about #altitude medicine---I think I still remember most of it.

Years before _that_, I was an Air Force #medic (after a brief stint as an Army infantryman) followed by a couple of years as a civilian EMT. My time in patient care informs my approach to science: the numbers I crunch represent human lives.

Otherwise, I'm an armchair #paleontologist hoping to be able to call myself an _amateur_ paleontologist again one of these days---by which I mean actually spending some time in the field and/or the prep lab---a too-occasional science fiction writer, and chronically sleep deprived. Also, my life is the internet: it's cats all the way down.

*Fellow #Primeval fans may recognize the jacket in the picture. My wonderful fiancée found it for me when I was hired at the ARC, for exactly the reason you think.

#Primeval war, glaube ich, eine britische Serie. Die erste Staffel habe ich damals gesehen. An irgendwelchen Stellen, an Land und im Wasser öffneten sich Zeitportale und Dinos schlüpften durch. War ganz nett. Habe aber nie wieder etwas davon gehört. Und jetzt sehe ich, es gibt 5 Staffeln. Aber leider nicht auf Amazon Prime oder Netflix.

Lieben Dank an alle, die mir versucht haben zu helfen die #Serie zu finden, welche ich gesucht habe. Ich bin jetzt doch allein drauf gestoßen. Und zwar meinte ich #Primeval.
