Есть у меня страсть к коллекционированию и ремонту интересных смартфонов прошлых лет. Недавно подписчик подарил мне весьма диковинный и необычный гаджет 2011 года: бюджетный QWERTY-смартфон Samsung Galaxy Y Pro с чипсетом от Broadcom. Помимо самого факта того, что смартфон обладал QWERTY-клавиатурой, меня также заинтересовало его кровное братство с Raspberry Pi первого поколения. Dear #MechanicalKeyboards folks, I've decided to give up.
I've switched my #ErgoDash to #ColemakDH in mid October (see https://marcoxbresciani.codeberg.page/keyboards/ergodash/ergodash.html#ergodash---day-443- ) but I've never been a touch-typer and it's very difficult to find even 20 minutes per day for training (see https://www.keybr.com/profile/f5vmplt ).
While working I'm slowing down everyone, waiting for me typing and doing bunch of errors.
I don't think I'll continue: I'm updating my #QMK layers to go back to #QWERTY.
20+ years of QWERTY are hard to change.

История клавиатурных раскладок — особенно для самых распространённых языков — до сих пор изобилует тёмными местами и уходит во времена развитого стимпанка, когда компьютеры были большими и механическими, а на смену работе писцов с гусиными перьями, наконец, стали приходить печатающие устройства.

It has been around a year since I changed both #keyboardLayout to #Dvorak and converted to a #splitKeyboard from a conventional #qwerty full size.

From time to time, I took some #MonkeyType #tests, to see the progress in my #typing speeds and accuracy. I thought that sharing my stats might help someone which is wondering if they should take a similar road

For reference, I was before typing at a speed around 100-120 wpm, but my wrist was hurting so much that I was fearing I couldn't longer type in the long run... so it is a win for me, even if now I'm (for the moment) slower Unfortunately, I started using MonkeyType with an account only after I changed the keyboard, and didn't think of taking a screenshot before... I regret it so much, so if you are doing something similar, please take at least a screen of your previous data but having a fresh account gives a bit of dopamine when it shoots confetti to notify you of an improvement It's more like wanting to improve, and less about trying to compete with your older self.

#Keyboard is a #ZSA #Moonlander in Dvorak layout, tilted and rotated to the outside instead of the usual inside (i find it more comfortable and natural) and with the halves widely spaced.

I use the computer e.day, for most of the day doing video-editing, 3D, moderation, some coding, a lot of chatting, study... needless to say, I have exercised every day for the past year

And yes, I can still use a qwerty keyboard (maybe because of the shock therapy change), but don't like typing on it!

@jdurehed I tried it as well. But I have some trouble with the integration in #Linux / #KDE.
It’s an #AppImage and I type in #azerty but the keyboard shortcut ( aka Ctrl+C, Alt+W etc… ) are in #qwerty !
So I just let it go

Давние читатели знают, что в моём блоге особое место отведено девайсам от компании BlackBerry. Канадский бренд в своё время делал очень интересные смартфоны с уникальными инженерными решениями, которые не были похожими ни на один современный смартфон. Пожалуй, только «ежевика» не боялась гнуть свою линию и, подобно Apple, плевала на все тренды, выпуская именно такие телефоны, которые считала идеальными для своих пользователей. Практически 10 лет назад миру был представлен новый шедевр BlackBerry на Android, который получил имя Priv. Год назад я пользовался Z30 и Passport как основными устройствами, а с мая по ноябрь я юзал Priv и он меня ни разу не подвёл. Чем же был крут единственный в своём роде QWERTY-слайдер на Android? Interesting… oui j`ai un clavier #qwerty avec lequel j’aimerais bien écrire plus souvent en français

Since mid October 2023, noticing I was starting to have more and more #wristPain, which were lasting days instead of hours... I opted to give those fancy #ergonomic #splitKeyboards a chance, and after several research hours, I opted for the #ZSA #Moonlander, there were alternatives, but too far from what I was used to, was unsure and this was my final choice. (also found a good local used deal)

Since I was changing keyboard, why not use also a more ergonomic layout? So, I opted for a #shockTherapy and went with #Dvorak and used this combination ever since! My first days were quite.... a going back to when I was 7 years old, sub 10 wpm XD but after a couple of weeks, typing was not as humiliating as before and my speeds increased :)

From time to time, I recorded my progress on #Monkeytype and these at the bottom are 4 months of data, from a classical full size #qwerty at 110ish wpm to currently 60ish, with a constant increase week after week. I am not in a hurry, as my wrist pain vanished, and that was the final goal.. So I'm okay with half the speed and -95%ish pains :)

Hope this might prove useful to someone that is also considering this #journey or have this kind of #pain ^^

My default keyboard layout is #Dvorak. I don't mind changing to #Qwerty to play games. But in order to play #Minetest I had to set my default key it Qwarty.
