RT @nprpolitics: Poll: Nearly 4-In-5 Voters Concerned Incivility Will Lead To Violence

While Clinton instructs her party to continue incivility until the dems grab power back and holder instructs people to fight on the streets and waters commands to publicly harass those who disagree politically. And while Trump continues to be Trump.

This is not a single sided issue. We all need to stop encouraging hysteria and need to work to lower the temperature of the discussions. #reachacross and treat each other with excellence.

Wow. That's really accusatory. No way to #reachacross.

@peterdrake
Right, I'm free to distance myself from any politician. The bumper sticker I bought that election was "Giant Meteor 2016."

I don't get to vote for individuals behavior, so that's why I'm talking about people in actual leadership positions.

My take is that commanding your political followers away from civility toward violence is bad, whether it's coming from the single person on the right's leadership or the many voices on the left's leadership.

It's no way to #reachacross.

It's folly to think that everyone who disagrees with you is not only wrong, but evil. Let's agree where we can agree. Sometimes we need to get past the triggers and keywords to get deeper to what we agree with.

Wow! Great Atlantic article about a study showing the social media view of the clean cut political divide in the US is inaccurate. The majority have so much to agree on. CW for length of a few quotes from the article.

From the article :

On social media, the country seems to divide into two neat camps...Reality is nothing like this. As scholars Stephen Hawkins, Daniel Yudkin, Miriam Juan-Torres, and Tim Dixon argue... most Americans don’t fit into either of these camps. They also share more common ground than the daily fights on social media might suggest.
...
In a democracy, it is difficult to win fellow citizens over to your own side, or to build public support to remedy injustices that remain all too real, when you fundamentally misunderstand how they see the world.

Real question, hoping for real conversation : Does the government of a country have responsibility to stop kidnapping and child trafficking/ child slavery at its borders? If so, how should they go about it?

#ReachAcross

@freemo I think this goes for all extremist groups, whether it is on the domain of political left/right, vaccinations, gun rights or religion, to name a few: the passion they have for their cause is admirable!

Continuation #ReachAcross not to say something good about a "side" but about a person who is not like you in many ways, but who is doing something you agree with.

@StevenDBT
While I agree that is how it SHOULD work I dont see the vast majority of people viewing the world that way.

Most people, increasingly so lately, view the world as either enemy or ally. Liberals and conservatives will loose their shit over anyone who isnt exactly where they are on the political spectrum. The religious, and activists, and so many groups seems to have this as a dominate pattern.

The point here is to reach across the divide and eliminate the "sides" that people see. Trying to get people to see more like you, to see past the sides is exactly the point of #ReachAcross

#ReachAcross is a new hashtag we came up with over at #QOTO where you say something you admire about a group you view as an opponent to a cause you are passionate about. For example if you are a Liberal you would compliment Conservatives, if you are a Conservative you compliment Liberals. Whatever group or groups you feel passionate for whether its politics, activism, religion, whatever it might be.

Use the tag and list something you respect or admire about the opposing side. When you see someone mention a group that refers to you, then return a compliment in a reply.

I will kick it off:

#ReachAcross for this week is for the extreme left and extreme right political spectrum (non-moderates). I admire the passion and energy you put into your activism. There are many people who would love to have that sort of passion for anything.
