I got some Gros Michel bananas! Here is my review.

GROS MICHEL BANANA REVIEW:

Gros Michel was the worldwide banana strain until a blight wiped out commercial viability, leading in about the 1950s to a switch to a different banana for worldwide consumption (the "cavendish). Therefore, Gros Michel have become rare. They still exist cultivated in small quantities by heritage farms.

taste: tastes like a regular cavendish banana, albeit a good one. I did NOT detect that it reminded me of "banana candy flavor".

texture: denser, compacts more gooey in the mouth while chewing, which is pleasant on the tongue.

appearance: smaller but otherwise similar to cavendish, skin interior has more texture. It did not seem "slipperier" than a cavendish banana, contrary to claims. I will try making my dad slip on one later to see for sure.

RATING: 4/5 slightly superior banana, but just seems like a particularly good cavendish banana, so delightful but not worth the 17 dollars a banana I paid for the privilege of trying this rare heritage breed.

Another nice review of the new book! I loved that she enjoyed The Height of Artifice, my most recent story in the collection: "...a man addresses his younger life in theatrical circles, and ponders why why the woman he loved never loved him back. Delightfully sad. And kind of funny at the end."

HELL OF A SUMMER #Review

Genial enough throwback camp slasher delivers more laughs than scares.
But if you want horny teens trying to hook up but keeping their clothes on, this is an option.

On side note, article lists a few deities of possible interest, including Santa Muerte, with who I've done a little work. For me, La Flaquita is impartial and delivers.

Also, author of article is author of the book 'The Evil Eye' which I read and reviewed.

#Review: I just finished the lecture series "A History of Central Asia: The Crossroads of Civilization" presented by Eren Tasar for the #GreatCourses. I highly recommend it.

Tasar surveys the history of the region, focused primarily on what is now the "five 'stans": Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan, with some discussion of Afghanistan and East Turkestan. He traces from the Scythians and other ancient steppe peoples, through the powerful Turkic empires, Russian colonialism, the Soviet era, and up to the modern day.

His history is thoroughly grounded in academic expertise, but his telling is enriched by his personal and family connections to the region, particularly when discussing modern history.

Tasar's core thesis is that Central Asia has always been a site of cultural blending, fueling not merely mixture but the synthesis of something new in each era. I really enjoyed getting to know more about the many cultures of this region through history.

Status by Meljoann

Describing Mejoann’s (@meljoann) musical style is both impossible and ever-unsufficient. Any attempt will always only result in trying to pidgeon-holing it, hence not doing it any justice.

This being said, I am a big fan of Prince’s 80s albums from “Purple Rain” to “Lovesexy” for their stunning, amazing, awesome innovative energy. This very same awe-inspiring creative boundlessness and abundance of ideas is what to me makes Meljoann one of today’s most inspiring artists.

See if you won’t feel the same when you listen to their new album “Status” (also being serialised on NHAM throughout the month of April).

MONSTER PARTY #Review

An interesting premise squandered by shoddy execution. Mindless violence can only get you so far if that's the only thing you've got going on.
