Smooth!

Don't think I'd heard of Ivory Joe Hunter, thanks!

Just looked him up: Rhythm and blues singer/songwriter (and, inevitably, pianist) ... lived 1914-1974 ... The Baron of Boogie ... wrote over 7,000 songs.

Maybe most memorable factoid: "Ivory Joe" was his real name; at birth, his parents said he "looked just like the baby on the outside of the Castoria Ivory bottle." (Apparently a children's laxative?)

🎹 Professor Longhair combined musical influences in the 1940s, creating exciting music with his piano virtuosity while building the foundation of #funk music in #NewOrleans. Influenced many, like Dr. John. More of his songs and info later in this seasonal thread.

"Black or white, local or out-of-town, they all had Longhair's music in common. Just that mambo-rhumba boogie thing."
— Allen Toussaint
