I've finally done it. I've written an email to businesses I buy from that are still on #Shopify. This will be going out to them all.

If you have a monthly subscription to any product that's not through Amazon, it's probably hosted by Shopify. Dog food That's Shopify. Coffee? You guessed it. Toilet paper? Yep.

Will you join me in writing to small businesses and asking them to consider switching hosts?

@gemelliz I think this is that scummy company that has held onto my data for years because I ordered something from some random company that used them.

And I can always tell when another scummy company uses this scummy company because whenever I try to order something from them they try to make me enter a code from a phone number I haven’t had since 2018. It’s kind of wild they haven’t figured it out and updated my phone number, whoever owns that # now must wonder who is trying to hack them whenever they get a 2F code that’s mine. Someone sent around instructions on how to make them delete our data and I should go find that again because this company sucks.

And we actually have a law in New Hampshire now that says they have to delete our data if we tell them to, it’s very much like California’s and I appreciate it so much.

And as much as I talk shit about Republicans I’m pretty sure we only got that because of them. NH Republicans and libertarians get real freaked out about being on lists and in databases and they’re currently trying to pass some more laws regarding data privacy. GOOD.

Just because Shopify is owned by a Canadian does not mean Canadians should feel obligated to support it, in fact quite the opposite.
