RIAA v. Youtube-DL, but it's Kakao entertainment targeting Tachiyomi this time

On January 2nd, 2024, developer of Tachiyomi received a cease and desist letter from South Korean company Kakao entertainment, demanding the project and all its forks be destroyed.

3 years after Youtube-DL being taken down from Github by bogus complaint filed by RIAA, developer(s) of open-source tools are forced to face the hostility from copyright scumbags. And we still don't have much in hand.

Like Youtube-DL, Tachiyomi doesn't host any of the "copyrighted materials", it merely helps its users download mangas from other websites/services. Those copyright scums knows that clearly, they send these cease and desist letters not to take down "copyrighted materials", they came with the target to overwhelm the developer, since the legal fees and lawyers aren't the price what normal people are willing to pay to fight corporates, which almost surely have the best lawyers at hand.

It is not a legal battle (if it happens), it's a slaughter. Copyright laws once again protected those conglomerates and their unreasonable demand, and left indie developers' hand stranded.

Copyright only serves the villains.

We demand copyright be abolished.

As #Tachiyomi shuts down development due to threats from Kakao Entertainment, I decided to give up the manga, maybe buy a couple of volumes for the library. Let them chase themselves with non-existent copyright.

#Tachiyomi закрывает разработку из-за угроз Kakao Entertainment. Недавно те, к слову, начали просматривать российский сегмент переводчиков и удалять кучу манхвы. Приложение ещё будет работать, но уже без поддержки, благо что как простая читалка CBZ оно работает хорошо.

Решил, что дочитаю оставшееся и брошу мангу, может, куплю пару томов для библиотеки. Пускай они сами себе гоняются с несуществующим авторским правом.

Kakao acting like they are "protecting" their content by bullying a small group of open source developers. I want to see them go after Google for allowing people to go to Mangadex on Chrome. How would that end up, I wonder?

Sorry for the flurry of posts, I'm very upset and depressed by hearing this. If anyone who has contributed to Tachiyomi sees this, you made an amazing product and I will forever be inspired by it.

Los de Kakao Ent se han puesto fuerte yendo a por los lectores de #manga y cómics tipo #Tachiyomi, han visto que los de Tachi han cedido pues se han envalentonado
Pero creo que recorrido legal tendría poco ya que dichas apps no alojan contenido son meros lectores si con capacidad de leer de otros sitios pero ellos no alojan nada
A las muy malas lo único que puede ocurrir que todos los lectores se quiten las extensiones y la gente pase a descargarse los capítulos y tal de los mates del sur

Tachiyomi, Lector de manga gratuito y de código abierto para Android. Lo uso mucho, la verdad me gusta ya que, puedes leer mangas de todo tipo, hasta comics americanos. Todo depende de la extensiones que uses.
