Tom MacInnes, WriterNo good photos, it being a windy, cloudy day, but the first warblers made pitstops in the garden. First was a yellow-rumped warbler, and came a black-and-white warbler, a first for the garden. Both seemed to be attracted to the new pond and refreshed themselves there, instead of at the bird bath.

Yet, FL Gov. DeSantis literally wants to erase such history from FL classrooms. He & others want to ban books & imprison librarians.

I’ve recently joined Mastodon and I am so grateful to everyone for all the info, advice and support in getting things set up and sorted. You’ve all been super helpful and I have yet to encounter an abusive message. Compare that with the scores each 2 or 3 days on the bird site. The federation aspect here confused me but you’ve all been very patient and informative. It has made the move so much easier and more fun. @supernovae I don't disagree that ppl are connecting, but if a tech-savvy Millennial like myself had trouble creating an account, logging in, and connecting to ppl then the switching cost is very high for GenX and up which are important voices in #TheGreatMigration Complexity is the enemy of scalability & widespread adoption.

Fedeverse growth
Masto.host are closed to new applications, which is understandable considering the growth this week. I hope they get up and running soon for new servers. The #fedeverse seems to work best when servers are relatively small. If they all start growing big, the Local feed becomes unmanageable and the community feel of each could be more easily lost.
We should probs start a list of the fab open sci folks who are migrating (or experimenting) over at Mastodon.
