The junction in the funerary roads at Cerveteri in Italy. These tumuli were Orientalising tombs. They were partly cut into tuff and partly constructed. One tumulus could have multiple chambers meant for a family. #TombTuesday

Prehistoric Portugal

This #TombTuesday I'm grateful that yesterday when Portugal had a massive nation-wide powercut, I was out in the countryside admiring this gorgeous dolmen in the sunshine, surrounded by wildflowers. No electricity needed!

#TombTuesday

Apart from the normal gravegoods, the Oseberg boat burial had fragmentary tapestry, made with wool, silk and flax. Most of the textiles that were found within the ship were found in the burial chamber of two women. The tapestry pictures human and animal figures. #TombTuesday

In the village of Nughedu Santa Vittoria, #Sardinia are some Domus de Janas - survivors of a larger necropolis. This tomb preserves peculiar architectural and decorative elements, like a bull's head relief on a pillar (or some say upside-down anthropomorphic figure). #TombTuesday More...
