"University of California academic workers expand #strike over #ACAB response to pro-#Palestinians protests
The University of California’s academic workers union expanded its ongoing strike on Tuesday to #UCLA and #UCDavis, bringing the total walkouts to about 12,000 individuals. The union, which represents 48,000 academic and..."

I stand in solidarity with my fellow academic workers and union members who were arrested and jailed for union activity, including chalking a sidewalk. BerkeleysideMore involvement and more solidarity is a good thing.
But it’s dispiriting to hear that ASEs outside of the SF Bay Area and LA felt that a geographically unequal COLA was worth a No vote. Firefighters unions are accustomed to the reality of local price level differences, just ask members who serve in Silicon Valley

BerkeleysideBoth SRU and 2865 have just voted to ratify -- the #ucstrike is over! ASEs have a new contract, and SRs have our first contract!
I stand in solidarity with UC rank and file who vote NO on this inadequate offer, and so should all workers who want living wages and fair working conditions. This was the biggest education strike in our nation’s history, and UC is offering a bare minimum to get it to end. They have so much more to offer #Solidarity #FairUCNow #UnionStrong #WorkersRights #UAWOnStrike #UCStrike #StrikeToWin
can someone enlighten me why the heck the UC unions are considering ratifying contracts before grading deadlines have even passed? I can't keep track of what's going on.

@dev I couldn’t agree more! This is such an obvious divide and conquer strategy, The strike is working. UC has so much more to offer than this TA #VoteNo #FairUCNow #StrikeToWin #UAWOnStrike #UCStrike #Solidarity
A tentative agreement does not mean a contract has been ratified. Until rank and file vote, the strike is still on, which means there’s still an active picket line. #ucstrike
It looks like UC graduate students have won their strike.
' The strike was notable for its size and scale, but also because of what it could mean for other universities, said Tim Cain, associate professor of higher education at the University of Georgia. If graduate employees and researchers ratify the contracts, it could prompt similar changes at colleges that compete with UC or where graduate workers are organizing unions. '

"The lowest paid academic student employees, who currently start at about $23,000 in an academic year, would see salary boosts of more than 55 percent over the next two and a half years, with additional increases at campuses in Los Angeles and the Bay Area, where housing is particularly expensive. They would also receive significant increases in health and child care benefits."

Rather amused that as a UCLA parent of 18 months who has received many, many, many emails from many, many, many folks affiliated with this highly esteemed institution, the first and only one to go to my spam has to do with the #UCStrike. #UnionStrong
@miriamkp Hope it went well today. #UnionStrong #ucstrike
Want a concrete effect of the #ucstrike ? A student ran this regression using IPUMS data:
perwt = a + b * educd + e
and remarked about how we can't be sure that education actually causes "weight"
(But good job on the causality issue!)
