Why did Windows 7, for a few months, log on slower if you have a solid color background?

Time for another story from Raymond Chen, about why, in Windows 7, logging in took 30 seconds if you had set a solid colour as your background. Windows 7's logon system needs to wait for a number of tasks to be completed, like creating the taskbar, populating the

What is the difference between Microsoft Copilot and a Microsoft Copilot+ laptop??

This article is useful in light of yesterday's news about them bringing back Recall on Copilot+ hardware:

wired.com/story/what-is-copilo

There are very few users at the moment that will have to deal with Recall, but it only takes on Copilot+ laptop to start taking automatic and regular screenshots of messages in a private Signal group!

re: AI, credential fraud, regulation

@dramypsyd @letsgoat nodds in agreement

I guess the laws need to specify any practice and not merely "person practicing" or some other legalese semantics that #TechBros seem to exploit as of now.

Problem is they have more money than sense and propably will stall #regulation with it as hard as they can, and I'm convinced they'd rather upsell a "solution" (i.e. "AI behaviour analysis" flagging people who are able and/or willing to self-defend as "dangerous") to the problem they cause or accelerate than stop unethical shite…

Cuz that's what the #TechBro|s do: Create a "#CottageIndustry" around #TechnicalDebt (i.e. #Windows being unfixably insecure => 3rd party "#Antivirus") and then flex that as a force rather than accept they're wrong!

If Satya Nadella says 30% of the code #Microsoft is "writing" is generated by AI, I don't think I'll ever count on #Windows to be anything but a steaming pile of manure. Mark my words: it's not getting the level of human review that it needs, hence my conclusion.

Do yourself a huge favor. Use anything but Microsoft and Google products if you want a decent life.

Aparently #microsoft patched a serious #vulnerability by creating a folder in the #windows root dir and telling users not to delete it. They won't or can't tell why. Another piece of evidence that MS actually has no clue any longer how their steaming heap of crap even actually works. We've arived in #warhammer40k. We now use
#technomancy to fix our #computers.
