Vaikka saatan olla hieman puolueellinen, luulen että julkistettiin eilen WordPress maailman yksi viime vuosien merkittävimmistä jutuista: @fairpm #FAIRPM

Puolisen vuotta sitten pieni joukko ryhtyi miettimään miltä tulevaisuus ilman toimitusketjuun liittyvä riskejä voisi näyttää. Sittemmin tuo joukko on kasvanut satoihin yksilöihin ja scope laajentunut poistamaan muitakin keskitettyjä riippuvuuksia.

Porukassa on lukuisia ihmisiä joiden työ vuosien aikana on vaikuttanut merkittävästi WordPressin voittokulkuun. Taustalla neutraalina tahona koordinoimassa on Linux Foundation.

The Linux Foundation on Friday introduced a new method to distribute WordPress updates and plugins that's not controlled by any one party, in a bid to "stabilize the WordPress ecosystem" after months of infighting.

The FAIR Package Manager project is a response to the legal brawl that erupted last year, pitting WordPress co-creator Matthew Mullenweg, his for-profit hosting firm Automattic, and the WordPress Foundation that he controls, against WP Engine, a rival commercial WordPress hosting firm.

O Pontão de Cultura Digital e Mídia Livre Colaborativas iniciou uma série de formações online e gratuitas para a qualificação digital dos Pontos de Cultura do Brasil no dia 19/5. São 15 atividades com 2 horas cada, com o objetivo de apresentar tecnologias livres atualizadas pela Rede de Produtoras Colaborativas para utilização pelos Agentes Cultura Viva e Gestores de Pontos e Pontões de Cultura.

Eu vou ministrar as próximas duas sessões. A primeira será sobre o conceito, história e tecnologias do Fediverso no dia 9/6, das 18h30 às 20h, e na segunda parte, no dia 12/6 (no mesmo horário), vou apresentar como transformar sites com WordPress em mídias sociais usando os plugins ActivityPub, Friends e FediPress. Além disso, será demonstrado como utilizar o recurso de autenticação de sites com WordPress e a plataforma Rios.

Known as FAIR — Federated and Independent Repositories — the project is essentially a plugin that can be installed on any #WordPress site, allowing users and hosting companies to connect to decentralized repositories for core, theme, and plugin updates, translations, news feeds, and other hard-coded services that typically rely on WordPress.org — a site owned and controlled by WordPress co-founder Matt Mullenweg.
