You should know: Americans use the imperial system for bits and bytes too!

A single american bit is roughly a bit.
A nibble is equal to 4 bits.
A byte is made of 5 bits,
and for historic reasons also 2½ nibbles.
And a bitfathom is equivalent to ¾ bitfathom.
