A number of Swedish #SJ 🇸🇪 type #Y1 railcars found their way to #Croatia from the late 1990s on. The Croatian Railways # 🇭🇷 registered them as Class 7122. One of them is seen here at #Zagreb main station in February 2018, still displaying its original brownish SJ livery, with just an HŽ sticker added.

The train tracks split the city in two: the area South of the station is a whole new part of town, where you'll find even larger 2x4 lane roads, with tramway tracks in the middle (ideal to miss your tram when you have to wait 3 minutes to cross the roads twice). At least there's enough space to have cycling lanes too (and indeed cyclists coming back from work).

Typical example of this #urbanism: a memory esplanade with a statue of former president Tuđman surrounded by highways. #Zagreb

However, the area between the train station and this core center receives way too many cars than what it can handle. Mainly 3-lane one-way streets with extra parking as much as possible. Cycling lanes are a 40cm wide stripe when space allows.

Even spotted a New-York-style parking lot: a whole block without building, just street level parking. #Zagreb

Some thoughts of #urbanism in #Zagreb. Starting with the core historic center: a large pedestrian zone (bicycles allowed as far as I can tell). Very pleasant.

Will the real #CyclingOnRails please stand up? Selection of the anti-jaywalking artwork that everybody ignores. At least now you know the Croatian railways are electrified with 25kV. #Zagreb

Today: People in #Zagreb, Croatia remember the children that have been killed in #Gaza by Isreali forces by writing their names as a sign of solidarity.

In January 2018 I travelled from #Zagreb 🇭🇷 to #Villach 🇦🇹 on board the international service #210 “Sava” (named after the river the train was running along for most of the journey). Picture taken at #Dobova 🇸🇮: a Slovenian Railways Class 541 in “Adria Kombi” livery is hauling the consist.
