A Rhode Island man has admitted to using gasoline to set several fires around the exterior of a predominantly Black church earlier this year, according to a federal plea agreement.

Prosecutors said Kevin Colantonio set several fires around the exterior of the Shiloh Gospel Temple early February 11 in North Providence after purchasing a lighter and gasoline.

Zachary Cunha, US Attorney for the District of Rhode Island, said at the time of Colantonio’s arrest that a search of his home turned up notebooks and writings that included phrases like “burn churches down to the ground,” “hunt them down,” and “gun everyone down who isn’t White.”

The plea agreement, which was filed in federal court last week, states that Colantonio intentionally targeted the church because of the “actual or perceived race, color, religion, national origin, and/or ethnicity of the congregants.”

Most of the Pentecostal congregation, which has been established for about 35 years, is Black and African American, according to investigators.

A Sealion is essentially a polite troll. It's based on a brilliant cartoon that you can probably find under #Sealion or #Sealioning.

This particular tactic is being used on the #Fediverse as the primary form of #AntiBlack harassment. Many of my friends have pointed it out & you can see boosts of the reporting on my timeline.

Today's epiphany comes about courtesy of @AlexanderKingsbury who uses the follower only function to sealion without it showing on their public profiles. Of course, they can always use mastodon.social's lax moderation to just swap accounts.

Smell his response for yourself and see what you think.

This being the first I've sen any of this, I guess my first thought is that when I see people calling other people fascists..they tend to be applying it to folks who aren't really fascists by any reasonable definition. It's like when people call other people "nazis". Yes, naziism and fascism are both bad things, but there are not a whole lot of actual nazis around. Usually, it's just a term meaning "I don't like you, and I'm going to call you the worst name I can think of"

Where is the #outrage over #racism #discrimination #bigotry and #islamophobia on the #fediverse?

The whole thing with #Ro has proven one thing: that so-called "safe spaces" on #Mastodon were NEVER meant to be for anyone other than #white #LGTBQ people. Just look at all the #AntiBlack racism, showing that even #BlackTrans folks are not safe here.

#Whiteness is the only thing that provides any protection here. Offend a #WhitePerson, and prepare to get #fediblocked. Anything else is fair game.
