Tracking the criminals - stupidity trails

Leaving aside his ‘connections’ With the #Kinehan’s, #death and #murder, what I found fascinating was the stupidity of a man to leave a digital footprint across the globe which was ably tracked and reconstructed by #Bellingcat and The #Times.

I hope that Australia has him to quote the oft used phrase ‘bang to rights’ and after that sentence others are lining up to extradite him as well.

Решили мы в начале февраля создать тему на сервере @Bellingcat в Discord. Лаконично изложили суть происходящего, предложили Bellingcat обратить внимание на массовые отравления обычных людей в России и пригласили независимых OSINT-расследователей, которые обильно сконцентрированы вокруг Bellingcat, объединять усилия для установления достоверной картины тщательно скрываемых событий.

Через 40 минут сообщение было удалено, а спустя ещё 10 минут аккаунт заблокировали.

Nach der Meinung vom US-Propagandisten und #vizeprasident (en) #Vance auf der #msc2025 muss unsere #Demokratie das aushalten, denn ansonsten wäre sie seiner Darstellung nach eine angeblich "schwache" Demokratie. I call BS. Diese Kampagnen, die sogar #deepfakes von Stimmen zB vom #Bellingcat Gründer #EliotHiggins enthalten, müssten mit aktiven #Contentmanagement unterbunden werden. Daher braucht es mehr #Regulierung von #Techkonzern(n) wie #X oder #Meta #Instagram, anstelle von weniger. Solche #Kampagnen gefährden die Demokratie.

Russian disinfo network “Matryoshka” is migrating to Bluesky as exodus from X continues

The Russian disinformation network #Matryoshka has launched a new campaign on the #Bluesky social network. Eliot Higgins, founder of the investigative journalism group #Bellingcat, has been one of the first researchers to detect its activity. So far, four Russian-made fake videos have been identified on the platform.

@Bellingcat The reason that the first part is centered around a war criminal (Matan Kaminski, the Gaza reservist) sets immediately the tone for the rest of this piece of Israeli propaganda. It even tries to build sympathy for this IDF soldier. Journalists should know that most readers only read the first part (or worse, only the header and the intro). So as a journalist you have extra responsibility to be extra neutral in the first part of an article. This is clearly not the case.

The rest of the article tries to straighten this out, but it didn't succeed. This article is a poorly sourced biased piece of framing. There have been better reports about what happened during these days, also focusing on the framing news media and the even more and dangerous framing by many politicians. Almost all people from #Amsterdam knew what happened these days and it was not what you describe.

This is really unworthy for #Bellingcat, but also not surprising; because Bellingcat made more mistakes since October 7 2023. Starting with one of your staff members who, in a Dutch talkshow, uncritically repeated the comprehensively debunked propaganda lies by the Israeli state.
