The cactus did bloom later on.

In the foreground is one of our two TBMs, or Trichocereus bridgesii monstrose, aka Penis Cactus. This one has been branching out quite a bit, and the other is growing his first cute little gonad!

This #cactus doesn't always look like this. It's been preened for a show but I didn't win any prizes so I took a photograph of it instead.
In May & August I see Western Kingbirds in our yard during migration. Here’s 1 drawn in my Perpetual Journal + Saguaro & Palo Verde flowers. Read more on my blog post https://paulaborchardt.substack.com/p/all-about-birds-part-5

"Ladyfinger Cactus" by James DeFazio

A small cluster of Ladyfinger Cactus is placed in a textured metal pot, labeled "Flowers & Garden," resting on a tile floor. The overall tone of the photograph is warm and slightly desaturated, giving it a vintage feel.

Astrophytum capricorne var. niveum flowering

Chopped up, thrown in with some almost ripe cherry tomatoes from the garden (prefer them vine ripe, but I am losing the battle with squirrels, mice, and rats so I'm harvesting whatever I can get before they do). 4/x #cactus #breakfast #nopal
Cut off the rest of the spines. I shave them off with a pocket knife in the garden. This variety of opuntia is pretty thornless. No idea what it is, it was a random cactus pad for free or on a sidewalk. 3/x #cactus #breakfast
Remove outer edges with pocketknife, that's where most of the spines live. 2/x #cactus #nopal #breakfast
More Flying Saucer cactus flowers.
THE FLYING SAUCERS HAVE LANDED!
I wasn’t able to post these pics yesterday because of my computer problems. By Saturday morning, the Flying Saucer cactus flowers were fully open and it was a glorious sight.
Too many pics for one post, so I'll put some in a second post.
The progression of the Flying Saucer cactus flowers from this morning to this evening. The flowers are just starting to open. By tomorrow morning, they should be in their full glory.
