My MP here in Vancouver Kingsway, Don Davies, is now the interim leader of the federal NDP. So I wrote him a letter about the upcoming NDP leadership race:
Dear Don,
Congratulations on being the interim leader.
You have earned a great reputation around here for honesty, hard work, plain dealing. You seem like a solid, decent guy who really cares.
So I'm just writing in about the leadership race.
You and I both know that David Eby cheated to become leader of the BC NDP. He used his power within the party to disqualify his only opponent, whose only crime was signing up 1000s of new members. You and I both know that Anjali would have won. Should have won.
The NDP paid a price for that cynicism. As you saw in both the federal and the provincial elections.
So I'm just writing in to say: This is the NDP's last chance.
Don, you have the power, as interim leader, to make sure that no one in the inner circle of federal NDP decision-making puts their thumb on the scale and installs a bland centrist, drug-user-killing Starmer-type leader like David Eby.
The failure to even tell Leah Gazan that an interim leader had been selected indicates a total contempt for whatever remains of the left wing of the party. That was UGLY.
I haven't seen a sincere public apology from you about that, but maybe I missed it.
So I'm just telling you: This is the NDP's last chance. If you let the losers at the top screw around with the rules and kneecap left wing candidates like the BC NDP did, the party is done. Finished. Forever.
People are tired of your party being run like a corporation for the benefit of the well-paid losers at the top. Don't lie to me. You know that's what's happened. By all rights, the entire team involved in the last election, not just the leader, should step down and go work for Tek Mining like Horgan (oh my God, that was incredible corruption) or whatever.
I would love to support the NDP as a real left wing choice for voters. People are dying for a choice like that.
When we started the BC Ecosocialists in 2019, the demand, the hunger, was almost shocking. We were crazy and incompetent, and I'm just telling you, when it was going, we couldn't onboard people fast enough. It was wild.
You saw Sean Orr's byelection results. That's what happens when an organized party is properly left wing. Unlike yours, currently. See the difference?
I'm done starting new parties, but if the NDP fails to pick someone who's ready to haul the NDP back to the left, and get rid of the geniuses who planned the last couple campaigns, somebody is going to start a new party.
And that will be that. The NDP will be gone, and nobody will mourn it. Nobody will remember your contributions to social justice, because they won't remember the NDP as anything more than a failed, sad, cautionary tale of selling out.
"You remember Don, he was an MP for the NDP."
"The NDP? What was that?"
So I really hope you can stop the usual smartest guys in the room from coronating whatever bland, Blairite choice they have in mind.
You have the power. You really do have a great reputation around here in Cedar Cottage. I truly believe you can do it. No kidding.
If you need public support to fight those jerks, let people know. We'll show up for you. Let the COPE people know, for instance. They could help you.
Anyway, thanks for reading this to the bottom. I hope I haven't harangued you too much. You're a good guy.
Take care, and good luck.
Yours,
Geoff Berner,
Accordionist,
Cedar Cottage.

Your point that Canada should be building out solar in particular is absolutely correct.
Canada should be building photovoltaic panel factories for national energy security, if industry refuses to step up to the profitable plate.
Really, so should every nation, but Canada's resources, geography, society, capital, resource sector, and tech sector are all unusually well-suited.
We can't afford to pass up this opportunity!

In light of Alberta’s current grievances and threats to join the US, should we not be more concerned when they start selling off Canadian infrastructure to Texas during a trade war?
With a separation referendum now on the table, isn’t it in Alberta’s interest to make side deals with the US that supersede Canada’s national security?
If this Trump Administration is indeed using tariffs to lower prices on Canadian infrastructure for their bitcoin rich Corporations to buy up, then selling off is simply a form of preemptive surrender.
This dangerous deal should be shut down in the interests of National Security and independence from US ownership.
Texas controlling Burnaby’s oil refinery would be a real threat and longtime future liability as America moves ahead with it’s economic war on Canada.
Texas is lockstep with Trump, don’t give them control of our province’s critical infrastructure.
Shame on Parkland for selling out BC and Canada.

Opinions
Some stuff that the Canadian Fediverse folks disagrees with, but opinions that I hold:
- rent control should be a short-term measure
- so far, the biggest providers of affordable (cheaper than alternative) housing have been private landlords
- the "buy Canadian" movement is just performative activism
- reciprocal tariffs are bad
- be sympathetic towards young conservative voters in Canada; the liberals have betrayed them; they've especially betrayed the LGBTQIA2S+ community, in spite of liberal leaders regularly showing up to pride parades
- blockchains are not that bad
- I often hear"eat the rich". Why is it rarely "feed the poor"?
- stop taxing productivity
- most Americans are decent people
- the Trudeau-era gun regulations were utterly unproductive

Recall the Poilievre gut feelings?
"individuals who expressed stronger intuitive thinking tendencies—such as relying on gut feelings—were more likely to find pseudo-profound statements meaningful. They also tended to find mundane or motivational quotes more profound."
"people who scored higher in receptivity to pseudo-profound bullshit were more likely to believe in conspiracy theories, religious and paranormal claims, and had greater faith in intuition."

Building a nuclear reactor now is evidence of massive bribery and corruption.
It is SO expensive,
It is SO dangerous,
It is ALWAYS WAYYYY over budget,
NUCLEAR WASTE never goes away.
It could not be approved without corruption, people are being paid off.
Makes the GreenBelt Scandal look small.
