While Docker brought containers to the mainstream, Linux developers had already been building and using container technologies for years. Tools like chroot date back to the early 80s, and LXC, combined with kernel features like namespaces and cgroups, provided a solid framework for process isolation. Docker’s genius was packaging it all up with a developer-friendly interface, but the underlying magic was always part of Linux’s DNA. Understanding this gives you a deeper appreciation for how robust and flexible the Linux kernel truly is.

Documentation in operating systems is cool. It is possible to extend and rewrite utilities as time goes on, as #freebsd proves. You can still have cool utilities, like #containers and #zfs and #hypervisors, good docs for them and a consistent base system.

I dunno where I am going with this, other than wishing I didn't have to peruse the Arch wiki and the Gentoo wiki for everything when I get stuck, and instead could just "man xyz" and get good answers, speaking as #nixos user.

#CloudNative #PDX is looking for speakers for the May 22 and July 24 meetings. Do you have something to share around #Kubernetes, #containers, #openstack, or other cloudy topics? Present to our meetup and stay for board games afterwards.

Offer to speak here: forms.gle/fArnDhmySBs3ZDJU9

We are also looking for Food/Bev sponsors. Get a shoutout and schmooze with local technologists and job candidates.

I believe this topic is not really well discussed online…

Seems that most important part of Minecraft server article was first sentence about FreeBSD Jails security.

After lots of questions on Hacker News/Lobsters I decided to add 'UPDATE 1' about it.

#Help My current #PC is aging, i7-6700, 12GB of ram (16gb max) and it can't do 4k. I want to replace my dual monitor setup with a single #4K. Do I just get a cheap video card that can do 4k or do I just build up a new machine?

If you say new machine, I only do #development stuff, #Python, #C/C++, #Rust, #Go, blah blah blah, #Virtualization, #containers.... #AMD or #Intel? Built in graphics is more than good enough for me. I can't make up my mind, help me :)

#Wealth is the ladder to becoming poor in the future as a society and then individually again...

#Wealth is the ladder to becoming poor in the future...

⬇️ Explained a bit more:

Everything gets more #expensive with modern Capitali$m / Bank$ / $tate because:

➡️ ALL = for the getting / #extracting "more" money from people (even if it's for less service or even a bad one)

#Capitalism / #Banks / #State are not caring right ❓

Mostly all uncaring #containers.

Wealth is just a mechanism to take more from people and for them to temporarily feel like they have something while it #exponentially gets more expensive and $tate / Banks / #Tech take full #ladder of control.

💬 #FreeSchool #Quote
For the #caring people to see in the future (as if we don't see it now) #FreeMo @freemo to see the real #equation.

More expensive = More cost to all
= More cost to keep "wealth" going...
(= increase cost to others)

= More #poor as you and others push up " #wealth " / rising prices / #greed / #power / #control ...etc!

...as the cost to each other
and by Bank$ and $tate goes up
for greed mostly (because costs force control / power in their favour)
Much like #cruelty to #animals.

Asking them to jump more for their food, away from #oppression, simple safety etc!

#TLDR;
Wealth is just a mechanism to take more from people and for them to temporarily feel like they have something while it #exponentially gets more expensive and $tate / Banks / #Tech take full #ladder of control.
