Your Phone: A Digital Fingerprint
Your smartphone isn’t just a gadget—it’s a tracker revealing your identity, location, and habits. Here’s how:
How You’re Tracked:
IMEI: Unique device ID, trackable without a SIM.
Bluetooth MAC: Beacons log your movements.
Phone Number: Ties to accounts and apps.
GPS/Wi-Fi: Apps and ISPs map your location.
Digital Fingerprint: Screen, OS, and settings create a unique profile.
Risks:
Ad targeting harvests your data.
Fraudsters exploit leaked IMEI or numbers.
Surveillance risks blackmail or data sales.
Protect Yourself:
Disable Bluetooth/Wi-Fi in public.
Use a VPN to hide your IP.
Limit app location access.
Update privacy settings regularly.
Gmail’s Upgrade Dilemma: Decision Time for 2 Billion Users! Google is making a major push to get users onto paid Google One plans — not just for storage, but for bundled AI features and so-called "enhanced privacy."
Here’s what’s really going on: Many users are nearing Gmail’s 15GB free limit
Upgrade nudges are becoming more aggressive
AI features (like Gemini) are tied to subscriptions
Privacy is marketed as a benefit — but remains complex
This isn't just a storage issue — it's a strategic pivot: Google is reshaping its free products into a premium ecosystem, one nudge at a time. Are we paying for better tools, or paying to escape limitations Google created?

How long have you cared about your digital privacy? And more importantly, when did you start to actively protect it?
It's been well over twenty years for me. I'd guess it was probably around 2000 or 2001. It was around that time I started using multiple email addresses and became aware of the problems browser cookies posed.
I dug into my personal backups/archives and found this old Visual Basic script from 2005 that deletes cookies.
Huh. What about the rest of us? We don’t deserve digital privacy?

I donated to the @torproject the other day and got the hat as a gift, received today.
Delivery on this field works very well too. I've never seen a box like this arriving in this condition (forgot to take a photo).
And I didn't know that they're going to include some stickers either. A little extra surprise. Thanks!
Take a look at the photo, if you want this too, go and donate!

What I really like about #DeltaChat / #Chatmail :
- no admins in groups. Groups without trusted people make no sense. Anyone can delete anything. It's more like a messenger for friends and family. It's a “feature” that I really like
What I don't like:
- not possible to pin messages (I read it's coming)
- webxdc is nice, but without pinned messages it's annoying to search the history for them
- moving profiles (I read it's coming)

Put the blame at the feet of the enablers: Apple and…
Android CentralA second thought occurred to me after the initial "Any company that does AI interviews is deeply unserious and should be avoided as an employer at all costs".
At least according to German data privacy laws, you generally cannot record a person without their consent.
But an AI is not a "person" in the legal sense, right? (And at the present time and for many decades to come, it is not a "person" in any other sense of the word...) So is there any legal problem with the interviewee recording the entire interview and sharing choice bits with the rest of the world for their amusement?
